So if I have a creek that is loaded with small garnets does that mean there is some place up stream where they are coming from. Or are they coming from the ground as the creek passes over them.
@TheDirtyRockHounder8 күн бұрын
@SCPadventures1776 great question. We don't have much in the way of placer deposits/mining in my neck of the woods. Garnet is definately a heavy and I would imagine it would get deposited similar to gold. Be interesting to hear some other's ideas.

That was my first guess, but a neighbor brought over some of her galena and it was not nearly as silver. I'm going to try to find my porcelain test tile this weekend and do a streak test.

Fellow DIRTY here in Arkansas you came up in my feed for the 1st time. Your short on digging up Malachite liked & sub.! I love the music to the short, May I ask if you made that or something you found here? I have an ALL new respect for everyone's channels here after starting my channel last week, all the hard work that goes into it! You piece here looks very similar to what I find here that I call iron concretions w/pyrite inclusions, Thanks for sharing Happy Hounding Holidays!

Thank you! Arkansas is definately on my bucket list after seeing the videos of smokey quartz crystals and Wavellite on KZbin. I wrote the words and then used Suno ai to create the various finished songs. Feel free to use any that you wish.

Most likely pyrite. The silver colour is normal for pyrite especially with freshly broken material, at least until it oxidizes. Find yourself a piece of unglazed porcelain and do a streak test on the material to confirm pyrite.
@TheDirtyRockHounder15 күн бұрын
I will definately do a streak test. A voltage test also put it in the pyrite range, so I am assuming you are correct.

From a photo I would guess arsenopyrite. Which contains arsenic, sometimes gold and other metals.

Well I Learnt something, where Malachite Green Dye comes from, well known in Golf & Bowling Green industry for hiding mistakes, I worked for a supplier, as a fine dust I had to wear a "Space suit" to measure it out into 250 gram bags, for shipping to Users, getting a speck on your skin would turn you green, After watching this found it is also a Gemstone of sorts, fascinating stuff ...
@TheDirtyRockHounder20 күн бұрын
That is cool, I never picture it as a dye. That makes sense. It is definitely not too safe as a dust!
