Hi I really need your advice. I am in a LDR with a nigerian man. He is 30, a verified music artist (works in the day) college educated. Has no kids, say's he's never been married currently lives with brother. He says he is looking for love. (Of course he likely wants a VISA too). He discussed what his goals are with me and after sharing the cost of living and home prices in the states he says if we choose to be together it makes more financial sense to live mostly in Nigeria and just visit states keeping a condo in US. Since he will be travelling alot while performing. He hasn't asked me for anything. Has been consistent with talking with me. I would imagine that with him being a artist with the same name for about 15yrs somebody would have spoke out on social media. Whats your thoughts?

This is not African issue; it’s happening in all continents in marriages having similar problems. Each gender has a role which is evolving because of changes in new social structures.

We have American men that do the same thing. African American women (especially those of us raised in the hood / ghetto) know these types all to well! We have a saying over here “Game recognize Game”, which means we can spot the games a mile away! And as far as giving them money…Baby Please, it’s not gonna happen in most cases.

Lady, you are HYPOCRITICAL and ONE SIDED. You said " if you are getting married to a Nigerian woman you need to follow HER culture and traditions in order to marry her." However, you stated that a woman must be prepared to transition into her soon to be husbands culture and traditons since he is the man. You blatantly said that the woman must take on the mans culture but in the same the breath said if that woman is nigerian, the man must accept her culture. You ONLY have a regard for African values. You are basically saying if a woman is not african than her cultures and values are to be disregarded if her man is nigerian. You did not say that if a woman is American or any other nationality, then the Nigerian man should also honor her customary traditions . Yet, you emphasized honorary and acceptance for a nigerian woman from a man. Well news flash lady in Rome you do as the Romans do. So if that nigerian man cannot also accept customary American traditions then shouldn't him and his family find a lad for him in Nigeria? QTNA?

Wow sounds like the wife has to give up her identity and values for her soon to be husband . It’s good to learn and care about the Nigerian tradition however, as a black American woman it is not right to neglect the wife’s values and traditions. If the wife and soon to be husband are in the United States of America they should honor and be receptive to the roles in the country in which they reside ( America). How can Nigerians expect American woman to follow their customs and roles while living in America! If that’s what they want then they should raise their sons to find a Nigerian woman. It’s offensive to expect someone in American to completely do a 360 into your wedding culture when you met your wife in America. You guys kill me with that 🤦🏾‍♀️. Its not like I’m in your country calling shots

@Lovebug07 Thanks for watching and contributing sis, but am not saying that a woman will lose her identity just for marriage. Am saying, if you want to be properly married by a Nigerian man, this is what it entails, or else you risk being an "away wife" who won't be accepted. Meaning no one knows you as his wife, as you were never introduced to his people. He may marry you there and take someone else home, if you get the jist. We have values and traditions. Just trying to prevent some heart breaks.

Again disagreed with when you say a lady shouldn't support financially in a wedding if she's capable mind you most men especially igbo's we don't value this white wedding you ladies of this day see's this so called white wedding as competition among your self whose wedding is gonna be the most expensive or most talked about if me as a man i a budget of 1k dollars for our wedding but you want a wedding of 5k and you can afford extra 4k who are mind to say no 😂😂 but that doesn't mean i will not take marriage serious i can't take my business money to marry a lady and after marriage i go broke chukwu-aju the woman will call me an irresponsible man for not providing for the family. I learnt this from a friend and a former colleague. Dalu nwan ada mimi.

Yes this is. It's the most important?? Maybe yes. Is it the woman's culture that's followed or the mans? What is enforceable is important too. Legal matters in USA. I don't think it's one size fits all. Age matters meaning younger people typically follow tradition older couples tend to make more of their decisions

FYI when African men marry European wives the do chores, they give excuses only to African women.

This simply means that because you are a Christian and believe in God doesn't mean if you are sick you stay home and pray only... You have to go to a doctor for help... Then pray. 🙏
