Thank you for sharing this technique with us. When getting ready to knit the wrap and the stitch together, is there any difference in how you pick up the wrap if you need to purl across the row instead of knit?

You are so welcome! So glad it resonated. Winter can feel like such a rush as the end of year approaches, but we can take that time to really sink into the relaxation with our knitting. Happy knitting! 🧶

Oh! I’ve been dreaming of a wonderful knitting retreat with lots of wonderful people. Lots of laughs, yummy food, and FINISHED OBJECTS! 🎉 wouldn’t that be lovely?

What a lovely thought (I'd only want a few people though, don't do so well with large crowds, even with fellow knitters!)

Excellent demonstration. I am try sooooo hard to knit a ribbed hat for my first granddaughter due any day now. Very challenging I think for me because I have been crocheting my whole life! But there is nothing better than a knit hat! I will keep trying. The English style where I hold the yarn in my right appeals to me. Because it is different than crochet? I also need something that will be easiest on my hands since I have rheumatoid arthritis and that can affect my hands and wrists. What do recommend for that?
@KnitWithHannah20 сағат бұрын
Hi teresa, I found the needles clicking against each other can be a problem for my wrists, if the material isn't gentle enough. So instead of metal or plastic, I now knit with bamboo. And yes, I find the fact that knitting as I do is opposite to the crochet style is a lot easier. You'll move the wrists a lot less. Unfortunately ribbing will be asking for more action in the fingers and wrists, as you're moving the yarn backwards and forwards for the knit and purl stitches. So if you can adapt to k2,p2 or k3,p3 you'll find it easier. Or find a pattern which is knit one row, purl one row. If you'd like a pattern do let me know, I've a few which fit newborns and young babies. All the best, happy knitting 🧶

I love your philosophical approach to knitting. We all need to retreat and renew. I love autmn and cosy evenings knitting in front of fire. Bliss!

I am there! I've restarted my pattern 4 times because of one row which never works out! Thank you for highlighting this x
@KnitWithHannah19 сағат бұрын
So much of it can be the fear of the row that's gone wrong before. I've seen it in my own knitting too. Slowing down and reassuring yourself that the row is very obviously knit-able (someone knitted it to make the pattern and take the photo!) it will feel more easily approachable. Happy knitting

I love this idea of slowing down! Right now I am frantically making Christmas Gifts and it feels so stressful. I love the cowl you showed in the video! Is the pattern available? It has been awhile since I did color work but I would like to make it after the holidays are over. It is beautiful!
@KnitWithHannahКүн бұрын
Hi! yes, slowing down can be difficult, but even just a few minutes at a slower pace each day can make a big difference overall. The Sashiko Cowl is available, as a past knit-along, in the Knit With Hannah Academy, here: academy.knitwithhannah.co.uk/sg-sashiko-cowl You'll have all the tutorials, patterns and added extras to go with it, so it becomes a self-guided knit-along. Happy knitting 🧶

I'm exactly that. I give up before starting. I've bought an easy aran pattern, I'm hoping I can tackle it and pull it off
@katzwhite5962Күн бұрын
Don't give up. Sometimes I ask people ie customers in yarn shops to help me. In the summer I will even ask people sat in the park in the sun. Someone told me to make practice pieces and work on those. So if a mistake is made, simply unravel and start again. So less stress unlike when you working on an important item. You Tube is GREAT for knitting tutorials.
@KnitWithHannah19 сағат бұрын
You can do it! When you read the pattern a few times, look at the individual pieces and focus on one of them at a time. If you see that you've taken them on in smaller projects or previous projects then it will feel a lot easier. If there's only a few new peices to learn from scratch I'd suggest watching the videos a few times of those techniques. They'll feel a lot easier if your brain (and inner critic) has had time to realise that they're not just gobble-de-goop! it all makes a lot more sense. Happy knitting

I've got to a row and thought damn that's a no no and undone the whole lot. I even threw 1 in the bin as i had had enough of yarn and pattern 😂😂x

I would love to knit fairisle and other techniques but I would never dare as I'm scared of making mistakes or worried that I won't be able to work it out. Someone told me to make practice pieces which I can mess up and make mistakes on rather than the real thing. And if I make mistakes on the practice piece it doesn't matter as I can unravel it and start again and not be stressed as it's only the practice piece/pieces. I'm def going to do this. This method of knitting might help you too.

I remember those projects, Louise! In those occasions I'm pretty sure that was just common sense! 😂 🧶

Definitely great advice, to start new techniques with smaller and simpler projects, especially with things like cables or colourwork. A small square placemat or a rectangle bookmark can be knitted while learning that kind of knitting skill, and as you say can be restarted if necessary. Happy knitting 🧶

Hi Hannah, great tutorial. My first stab at intarsia was a very complicated Christmas jumper! It was very difficult but I was so pleased with the final result. Can you give some advice? If the pattern is for example 10 sts red, 10 sts blue, 10 sts red, 10 sts blue, would you always use 4 different balls/bobbins of yarn, or would you ever knit across the intermittent sts and twisting the wool around each stitch? I hope that question makes sense! I have a feeling that might be a completely different technique! Thank you.
@KnitWithHannah2 күн бұрын
Hi! I’d definitely use separate bobbins or balls of yarn, if not the yarn is stretching across too many stitches so you’ll see tightening of the fabric across all the vertical stripes. There’ll be a much more flexible, free flowing fabric when you’ve finished if you use a full intarsia technique. Happy knitting 🧶

Brilliant advice, thank you. Also explains the tightening I had in the jumpers I knitted!

I feel the hygge 😌 Perfect for a horrible rainy day. Sat in coffee shop with husband today. Lovely chai latte, knitting and chatting. I have finished back, front and sleeve for 1 of my jumpers. Didn't want to take cable as I need to follow pattern. Straight forward, easy stocking stitch is perfect for me. Back and fore watching it slowly grow. I think the gent on the next table was a bit mesmorised 🤭 x

There are a couple of videos here on the channel, in this playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLnqw36aiAI0i9ej0f-iXbzGxpjxGCz_Nm&si=_ohP14nZAp8Q_3TV Trick is to get the yarn tight around the middle and secure it multiple times. Happy knitting 🧶

Doubt you'll find this comment, but I am struggling with tension and Norwegian purling. How big is too big when I am purling off that loop? I have heard others say "don't make it too big but what is "just right"?
@KnitWithHannah6 күн бұрын
Hi Judi, the stitch will be stretched more if you’re manoeuvring it a bit more as you do in this method. So I’d say it’s looking at the row of stitches in comparison to your knit rows. Do they stand out as stretched? Can you pull some of the slack by holding the yarn a little looser as you purl, so the subsequent knit rows will also have a bit more give? Whatever happens using this method might alter your gauge slightly, if you’ve not knitted/purled in this way before maybe test it across a couple of smaller projects like a bookmark or a headband. To give you an idea of how it appears once finished. This might give the option of adjusting this way or that, so the practice could even it out. Happy knitting 🧶
