I am trying to figure out how to do essentially the same thing you did here with the message typed in the message box going into the auto email ("hi there")...but instead of a product purchased by a customer in the Shopify online store (which we do not use, we only use POS app in our nonprofit store), I want the "notes" field that you can add when creating a gift card in the admin. In products>gift cards, I click the button "create gift card" and fill everything in, including the note that I use to mention what the gift card is for (winner of a contest), but that note isn't showing on the email that goes out. I have been looking all over for the code to add this to the email, but so far haven't found a solution. Any ideas?

What she didn't tell you is that this element will show as a Placeholder on every single product that you DONT have a value for. That means, you'll need to do this for every single product or it'll look like your store is still in progress with a Placeholder Theme Element.
