It wasn't necessarily synthesized. The singer really hit all those notes, they were just edited to be much closer together, making it humanly impossible to sing this song.

I am not a fan of the opera. However, when I heard this song performed in the Fifth Element, I was just captivated. It was like the song resonated through my soul. And, I've found a new appreciation for this genre.

Looks like the person on stage and the one singing the song are not the same person. According to Wikipedia, Inva Mula sang the song while Maïwenn Le Besco played the on screen actress.

Her actual singing was far more impressive and affecting than the digitally manipulated and released production. Her voice is beautiful. The Fitth Element is one of my favorite movies. However, even as a kid I recognized the enhancements to her vocals and did not like it. The studio did her dirty. I utterly appreciate this footage. Thank you.

My dad is 2nd from right on the album cover. He was in the Allen Collins band before this, but Collins crashed his car and the band broke up before they could put out a 2nd album. He was never really famous outside of Jacksonville, but he would have loved seeing how many views this has racked up.

The music was written to be not able to be sung because the gap between high and low notes is too big among other things. The actual singer sang some notes and then they were spliced together. Since that time, people have sung it without digital enhancement. The one that is perfectly accurate to the music is 'disneydiva7.' I liked the movie, it has a lot of amazing detail like this, having an alien diva singing something humans aren't supposed to be able to sing, makes for some pretty listenable opera. Bravo, as they say. :)

Funny to hear that Maiwenn was shocked that she thought people wouldn't recognize her effort in the role after the editing. Many years later, the diva dance is going flippin' viral and many singers are performing it live! Infact, Diva Plavalaguna is single handedly making sure more people are introduced to this marvellous movie ❤

Just watched her interview, she lip sync.. But she still has to sing this, prepared and practiced for 3 months to make it look like she really was the one singing.. That’s why I understand that not showing all of the Diva’s performance was disappointing for her because she thought that no one would see her efforts.. I was so sad to hear her explanation of what she think what was the Diva was feeling.. 😊😊😊
