As you meantioned, this video is 6 years old and I upgraded my flock to a larger cage years ago. I did have a look online and it doesn't look like this cage is available anymore. All that being said, I think it was about 22 inches wide, 35 inches tall and about 11 inches deep. Those measurements are based on the cupboard it sat on, that I still have, and my memory of how much space it took up, so take them with a grain of salt.

Clearly you care about budgies and have tried to provide good information. Please review this video and edit it to exclude suggestions you've made that could be dangerous. You should exclude all cement and sand perches, vets will confirm they can hurt your parakeet's feet. The fabric huts, encourage nesting behavior and are often made of microfiber materials that a budgie gets caught in their crop and can't expell. For the same reason rope perches should be watched. If a viewer has a budgie that chews on the rope it can cause crop impaction which could kill the budgie. In addition budgies need perches that are between 1/4 and 1/2" in diameter. There can be a few points where they are wider but only if you have many other perches. The plastic perches and wooden dowels cause pressure points and can lead to bumblefoot. Please, research and update your video. You have had over 46,000 views and you are disseminating inaccurate advice that could harm or possibly kill a budgie. That said, your easy style of talking and your compassion is evident. Please just redo this video.

My parakeet prefers the stainless steel dishes. She has one good leg and prefers to perch on the wide edge of them. My feeders came with the Vision cage, but she doesn’t like them. She also loves the little pincers for her cucumber and apple. I just came across your channel and subscribed.

What kind of toy is that? My bird is also a year old and I’m just starting to hand tame and get him used to eating from my hand. I had a moment like you had in the step up video minus the climbing onto my hand and stepping up part but I’m hoping that it’ll happen with time. I can’t touch my bird so I was wondering if maybe this would work to introduce him to head scratches.

Sadly I've never been able to find this particular toy again. It was made of reeds tied together to form a spiky ball. If you manage to find something like it I'd love to know where. As for using it to introduce head scratches, it was Zephyr who started to use it on his own first. I simply took advantage of that. He never allowed me to use my hand to give scritches.

Check to make sure your tank conditions are good (heat/humidity/substrate depth/etc). Make sure you're supplying a good balanced diet as well. And hopefully they'll regrow the missing legs over the next few molts. If you look closely, you may even be able to see the leg "buds" begin to appear. Good luck to you both.

I know all tiels are the same but these are literal identical in behaviour to my bird lol. I've had him for 3 months and he's still "in this stage"...I just have a lot of issues taming him. I may never get friendly and cuddly with him but I'm not letting go of him. I love him even if he only tolerates me for the home and food I provide for him. I'm not even going to get another tiel, birds aren't my first choice in pets and I didn't want him at first but now I don't want to let him go no matter what haha

Hi there thank you for supporting me in the last vid I have bought a nesting box and I do not have know how to insert it into my birdcage and I’m wondering how can you please tell me or make a video about it and I think that my girl bird is actually pregnant but I don’t know
@dee-annegordon5959
@dee-annegordon5959 4 жыл бұрын
You'll need to have a cage with multiple doors. Nesting boxes are usually attached by screwing them onto the outside of the cage through the bars (most nest boxes will come with a bolt/washers/nut to attach them with and a predrilled hole to feed the bolt through), with the opening of the nest box lining up with the opened cage door ( the higher up in the cage the better). Once the box is attached there's nothing more you need to do for nesting. You will need to make sure your female has enough calcium and a healthy diet, as well as an open water source (ie water bowl). If you haven't bred your birds before I'd suggest doing more research regarding diet, incubation, and possible issues to watch out for. I don't breed my girls, so my knowledge is fairly general on this subject (I know more about how to avoid breeding behaviour) but there are others with much more information on youtube that could help you get prepared for breeding.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Please don't blame yourself. Sadly our birds often hid any symptoms of illness until they're very sick. At that point sometimes there is nothing left to do but make them comfortable and show them love. I've had to go through saying goodbye several times over the years. It's never easy, but I always take comfort knowing that I did the best I could for them and they had a good home.

@dee-annegordon5959

Sadly I've lost Zephyr to illness since this was filmed. Zephyr was usually willing to be on my hand so long as treats were involved, but never was really hand tamed fully. His brother Mizzle is still with me, but Mizzle is still extremely hand shy. He does get out of cage time, but want's nothing to do with my hands. I actually have to hide them behind my back if I want to be close to him, lol. We've come to an understanding, I don't touch him and he goes back in his cage when I tell him to, mostly. Having/training parrots is sometimes more about what they want the relationship to be than what we envisioned when we brought them home. I still have a close relationship with Mizzle, but it's based on whistling to each other and me talking to him, rather then physical contact.

If that's the only sign making you think they're angry I wouldn't worry too much. It may just be their vocalization. Every bird will vocalize slightly differently, and sometimes the pattern it makes may sound angry or scolding to us. Just watch for other physical signs of anger and/or frustration.

Did ur birds always get along? BecAuse my cockatiels don’t fight but don’t get along at night. They sometimes hiss and fake bite over a perch even tho there are 2 and they both prefer separate perches
@dee-annegordon5959
@dee-annegordon5959 4 жыл бұрын
Let's say they tolerated each other. Zephyr and Mizzle are actually clutch mates, so had literally been today their whole lives but weren't close brothers. They never really fought and Zephyr was always the more dominate. Mizzle usually just let Zephyr have whatever he wanted. I've since lost Zephyr, and Mizzle is now enjoying the single life with the budgies for company in the next door cage. That all being said, some hissing/fake pecking is normal if you've got two dominate personalities trying to sort out their pecking order. So long as no ones getting aggresive and injuring the other I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure they have plenty of space and multiples of the important stuff, food bowls, water, and high perches, etc.

Im giving my english meds right now too and im struggling to get him to open his beak. Its spilling all over his face feathers and they look like his skin is irritated and pulling away from his face? Im not sure if that's just how their skin is there and looks funny cause his feathers are all matted.
@dee-annegordon5959
@dee-annegordon5959 4 жыл бұрын
Try giving the dose a little at a time. That may help with the dribbling over. Mine would often use their tongues to push out the meds, resulting in clumped, sticky face feathers. Good news is, once they're feeling better they'll be grooming and taking care of those messy feathers. As for opening their beak, try getting the end of the syringe right on the tip of their beak. Then gently push upwards a little bit. Once you see an opening squirt a little med in and repeat until the whole dose is done. This worked really well with my Cockatiel as well (who hates hands anywhere near him). Good luck and hopefully your feathered friend is feeling better soon.

Ok, I obiviously admit this is a great video. I also know this video is old, but the perches that come with the cage is also a cause of bird feet sores. The sand perch can get pieces of find sand stuck in a birds soft foot. I may be wrong though. Also just some RANDOM info, little bird tents can promote breeding, which I'll let you research the negativity on. Same with mirrors in some cases.
@dee-annegordon5959
@dee-annegordon5959 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. As you mentioned this is an older video. Since making it I've actually stopped using sand perches, and now recommend pedi-perches instead since they have a smooth area for the birds foot to sit on. As for the perches that come with cages, while not ideal can still be used if combined with other perches of varied size and texture. Regarding tents, you are correct. Particularly if you have a mixed flock and don't wish to breed, then they should be avoided. Personally, I've never had issues with mirrors. Though I believe some with single birds have had issues with their bird bonding with the bird in the mirror rather than their human.
