This is the reason why I only buy those thing in ali express, way more cheaper than other websites, I got for example the 4 tb from jmachen (the so called 4tb hyperbase mix lite) and yes its really worth the money (bcz is fully loaded and is not missing a shot) its worth it bcz at the end you have an hard drive in your hands and you can always swipe datas or delate files you dont like......totaly different discussion for those android console or old optiplex those for me are really ripping off buyers!!!!

Worth adding too that these pre loaded devices are actually illegal. If you don't own the original game then it's naughty. In addition, it's much more rewarding to build your own curated collection.

I tell people who comes to my channel with issues. As soon as they tell me they bought it from someone. I just point them back to the seller. Most of time when they're build breaks is because they Update there Batocera. (99% of these premades are batocera) or add there own stuff, then low and behold, it breaks 😒.

Yes, definitely build your own if possible but I do have to admit, I'm guilty of buying a couple of these kind of pre-builds in the past but that was way before I learned how to build my own about a year ago from KZbin channels like Jamie's. That's really the best way to go, but I do understand if you don't have the time or the tools/means available to you to do it yourself. That being said, you more than likely WILL run into problems eventually with pre-builds though because the memory cards/drives that come with them are usually really cheap products (like Jamie stated) and will fail or get corrupted at some point and you'll either have to spend the same amount of money, if not more, to get the same thing again. So you might as well just try to build your own anyway and save money in the long run. If I can do it, just about anyone can lol, especially with help from gurus like Jamie that love helping you out!👍

Same with any purchases really, particularly online, always do a little research and window shopping first. Never go for the cheapest or most expensive options as there is an increased chance of being scammed. And there plenty of disreputable and greedy people that would scam you. What they are doing is exploiting the ignorant, the vulnerable including the elderly and mentally ill, people who are under the influence if alcohol or drugs and those that make snap purchases and impulse buys.

Instead of buying from wherever. Buy from a reputable seller that will provide you customer service when needed. My other suggestion is to stay away from buying a pre-loaded retropi. Buy a pre-loaded mini pc to get your worth.

@Nodster

@@JustJamie1983 That is a bit of a subjective response. The Raspberry Pi 5 is capable of Dreamcast and PSP with gamecube and PS2 being a bit of a mixed bag but everything below that will be just fine. Not all mini pc's are equal and some of those will struggle to run the above systems too. The only equivalence that can really be made between a lower end mini pc and a Pi is the price as the mini pc has a tendency to be slightly cheaper than buy a Pi with all the extras needed to achieve the same thing but there really is not much in that price difference. Higher end or non equivalent mini pc's do not even factor into this as you are clearly paying for that performance boost any way. The only real argument to be made here is the purchasing of a pre-loaded mini pc and Pi which the clear answer to is obviously NO because those pre-loaded systems are usually loaded with an already existing image that are generally available for free anyway and just a case of downloading it and writing it to the SSD or micro sd card.

You need some time away from gaming spent in the real world. If your surprised someone is trying to get money from having NOTHING at all to do with the making of a product, you've been in your cave TOO LONG. Tell me a Tesla is really worth $150,000AUD, tell me any Apple product is WORTH buying, tell me Elon, Jeff, and the rest are actually DUE their billions....Elon's money is from his Grandpa's Blood Diamonds, Jeff's Apple money is from the exploitation of workers and ripping off customers...Corporate greed isn't anything new, and tiny sellers of garbage electronics are just jumping on the free money from idiots bandwagon..... I was looking at one of these units for my Grandkids, then I found YOUR KZbin channel, within days I had turned an old quad core PC into the fastest gaming console I have ever had. It runs EVERY THING I can throw at better then the consoles they came out on, including my PSX and PS2 collections, I have almost 1TB of Playstation and Sega Megadrive games on the HDD and I can play any of them faster than my PS's ever did, and the old Mega Drive was simply a joke in comparison, hardware wise, how would a 30 year old console compete with 4 CPU cores and 4GB video RAM... Thankfully, your Batocera setup video's are a godsend, thanks for saving me an absolute fortune.

I can understand the folks that just want something plug & play and don't fancy messing around downloading the roms & then downloading & configuring the emulators especially when it comes to the higher end systems it can take a bloody long time. I spent over 6 months in total putting together two drives one is a 4TB which has just the high end systems on it and the other a 6TB that has as many systems as possible on it. Another area that isn't talked about much is game compression and how long that takes but the benefit of space saving. The DIY option is the way to go but it's just not for everyone I do wonder how Jamie has the patience to endure with some of the stuff some of those front ends I would just bin after an hour they are so overly complicated.

Well, the Raspberry Pi, especially the more advanced models are in rather short supply so they are going for rather excessive prices these days. I just won't spend that much. Not for a game machine. I was always an Atari 400/800 guy so I got one of those cheaper $35 mini GameBoy knockoffs to see what the games were like and to maybe become more familiar with the controls. But of the hundreds of games included, I couldn't tell if any of them were the original games and they were all five or six different versions of the same games. Phooey. Then I got a Flashback 7800 mini because the Atari 7800 Pro System originally came out a few years after my Atari 800 did so I was looking for higher resolution and fancier graphics than I had gotten used to. I was disappointed to find that most of the included games were 2600 games (later I learned that one of the features of the 7800 was that it could also play 2600 game cartridges. Meh. Recently I got a mini NES system to once again look at the Nintendo games. Hundreds of included games, most of which I didn't recognize, but as I scrolled through the list I noticed it repeated three or four times before I reached the end. Forget it! I decided to never again buy a game system that I couldn't add my own games to. I got one of those 400 Mini units, but was disappointed that nothing on the keyboard is functional and their CX Joystick, while it looked a lot like my old CX40 joysticks, had a bunch of extra unlabeled buttons (to make up for the non-functional keyboard) that are way too easy to hit by accident during gameplay. Yes, I can add my own games, but that's useless if I can figure out these unmarked buttons. I cut to the chase and bought the new Atari VCS which also includes many games, but they're the ones I want, and I can add my own games to it. Better yet, I recently got my old Atari home computers and accessories back after thirty years and some of them still work! I even got a FujuNet module so I can now add my own games to my Atari 400! I don't need no steenkin' emulators! I can now play my old cartridges on original hardware! And it didn't cost me a thing, besides what I already paid for them in 1983.

There has not been a Raspberry Pi shortage for a while now to the point that I got a Pi 5 shortly after release even without being on one of the invite lists that were being used to gate keep them. All of those cheap Chinese "game consoles" are garbage and should be avoided along with Chinese micro sd cards, With that said there are handheld devices that exist that are also Chinese from brands like Anbernic and Retroid and those are fine (generally the handhelds that are £60+) but reviews exist on all of those devices and a lot of them! The caveat to this is that the supplied micro sd cards are Chinese garbage and should be copied to a branded one asap. The biggest issue with these cheap garbage consoles is that they just down load a bunch of games and dump them on the device and done, they are not likely to put the effort in to compose a list of games that do not have multiples etc The @games flashback devices are renowned for being garbage and watching reviews on them would have been a good place to go. As for the NES mini, there is 3 variations on this that spring to mind: 1. official NES mini that came preloaded with 30 games. 2. knockoff NES mini's (usually from china) that come with thousands of games (I will assume you mean one of these given the hundreds of games remark) 3. NesPi case for Raspberry Pi, this one is generally sold as a case on it's own and you supply the Pi and do all the work to set up emulation, listed here on the off chance people are actually selling these fully set up with Pi and emulators etc. The 400 mini begs questions, what made you think the keyboard had some sort of functionality? considering the size of it that was going to be very unlikely also reviews would have said so too and given the Amiga 500 mini and c64 mini also do not have working keyboards it stands to reason. Atari VCS? really? why? each to their own I guess heh Your original hardware you may want to get checked as capacitors etc have a tendency to leak from that era and especially considering the 40+ years :D Got to keep that in working order with out a doubt. The biggest issue with original hardware and software is the profiteering of those items that is currently going, Hardware and software prices have gone through the roof since preservation and retro gaming became so mainstream to the point that we are seeing old game cartridges costing as much as the latest AAA games available if not even more depending on rarity. Nintendo hardware and software is especially where this becomes apparent. Collectors are in part to blame for this as they are at the point they will pay just about anything for some of this stuff and all those auction and retro companies are abusing that by inflating prices which in turn is pricing a lot of regular people out so they turn to emulation.
