Can’t help but find it interesting that this piece is used in the iconic endings of not just one but TWO masterpieces of existential cinema.

That confluence between emotion and intellect.. Is it not SOUL? For me that is Rubenstein.

I love this version so much. '2 capricious, mischievous lovers in their infancy' waltz. Nice move.

If Chopin had only produced this Nocturne and nothing else, he would still have been the great composer he was.

To me, this prelude expresses the range of emotions of grief, the horrible oppressive inescapable presence and the need for great tenderness to survive terrible loss. Especially when played by Horowitz, although i do treasure Rubinstein

Quite good fidelity! And of course the playing is unmatched for musical interpretation. Perhaps the the most satisfying performance of this rather difficult piece available. Vive M. Rubenstein!

Quote from "The Lover 1992" Movie; Dusk one evening on board ship, crossing the Indian Ocean under the luminous sky. Suddenly the sound of a Chopin waltz came bursting out from the main lounge. I had tried to play it for months without success. That's why I gave up the piano. There wasn't a breath of wind and the music pervaded the whole ship. I stood up as if to go and throw myself into the sea. Then I did weep because I had thought of my Chinese lover, and I was suddenly not sure that I hadn't been in love with him after all, with a love I hadn't been able to see because it had become lost in the tide of events, like water seeping through sand. Thanks to that music, spreading over the sea and filling the calmest night I have ever known, I could see my love for him for the first time...

I adore Chopin's music. This is my favorite piece. It is extraordinary. I was always drawn to melancholic music, ethereal sounding, as my imagination just takes off. Bellissima

this man does nothing and yet the whole soul of the piece is there. It just sits there on the air in front of you. What is Rubinstein's secret ? Does anyone know ?

Artur Rubinstein is the gold standard as far as I'm concerned (child of the 60s) and this is my #1 favorite Nocturne, although my teacher, Jean Weiss, forbade me from learning it because I was not ready at age 13. As a Polish-Russian-Swedish-American I'm into to the Mazurkas, Polonaises and other Polish dance rhythm pieces (the Rondo mvts of the Concertos, op. 11 and 21, Trio in G-minor op. 8 (Mazur, Krakowiak), Rondo in F op. 5 [Mazur], Rondo op. 16 in E-flat [Krakowiak] and op. 13 [take your pick].) As a Chopin junkie, I opine nobody has played, or plays, Chopin like Rubinstein. Some come close: Zimmerman, Pollini, Ohlsshon, Argerich (especially when you need strength, Argerich is right there), Gornostaeva, but Rubinstein blows them all away without even trying. That's just my opinion. I'm open to your opinions: Novaes, Horowitz, Richter, Ashkenazy, Serkin all were all high class. I just happen to prefer Rubinstein.

Imagine playing like this at a UNFAIR piano competition and not winning, but the person who won played a level 4 piece very badly.

This is one of the most stress free songs I can listen to. This song reminds me of a rainy day, with a dim light in a dark room, all the way back in the early 2010’s.

Great interpretation. I although personally prefer the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli one, much more refined.
