SP2 is poor compared to SP1, especially because of the cheap jokes added, and the loss of Christine Andreas and Terrence Mann.

Does anyone have any idea on what is being said at 4:41 ? I get Percy asking Marguerite to dance, but I don't quite know what she says in response.

Saw this in 2000, twice in San Francisco, once in Los Angeles. Douglas Sills always spent a lot of time at the stage door chatting with fans. He's a lovely fellow.

Another rock singer who can really sing - this is Falcon in the Dive, he plays Chauvelin in 1999. Wish I'd seen it. He also starred as the hero in Pirates of Penzance with Linda Ronstadt and they both could really sing, not just rock junk. The film.

Your soul is eternal and worth so much more than anything in this life. Jesus paid for it with His blood, for you to go to heaven, not hell, if you just repent of your sins and turn toHim as Lord and Saviour. I understand it is just an expression, but your soul is real!

Whoever wrote the music, such as Where's the Girl, has no knowledge or doesn't care about the style of composition at the end of the 18th century. Look at late Mozart, early Beethoven, Haydn! It's right there for the modern composer. Just adjust! The music is unbearably inappropriate to the period.

My criticism is the costuming of the women. Those full skirts, overfull, are anachronistic, totally. By the early 1790's, the years of the Terror, skirts had become narrower with a ribbon below the bust, more Grecian style. Marie Antoinette started this style in the last years of her life.
@erpollock
@erpollock 5 жыл бұрын
I so wish I had seen this. I have one small criticism - Marguerite's clothing styles are 1780's with exaggeratedly wide skirts. By the early 90's, this had been modified to a more Grecian columnar gown, not entirely, but full skirts were much less full. See portraits in the Met Museum and the Frick.

This must be one of the most godawful songs I have ever heard from a Broadway musical. The whole premise of the production is mistaken - the director has created this as a comedy, while Baroness Orczy's novel was dead serious and took heroism seriously. Luckily, I was unaware of it when I lived in New York and never wasted a ticket on it. I find most reprehensible the audience's laughter elicited by all the hijinks on stage. What a miss!

If you've never seen the show you don't know what you're missing. They're intentionally being ridiculous here, trying to sell themselves to the prince as foppish, brainless nitwits, but there is plenty of serious drama and intrigue throughout the show as well. I feel sorry for you that you haven't seen it. It's one of my all time favorites.

So I know I’m a little late to this video, but I just wanted to express how much I love this scene in particular. I just finished playing Sir Percy a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, there was no moment that was more entertaining than this little poem. This little quatrain was such a great little moment. And Douglas Sills does such a great job playing this fashionable top. I remember during rehearsals I would watch this video for inspiration. So I’d like to thank not only Douglas Sills for his performance, but also to the lovely human who posted this video. Thanks so much.

Letting the audience know that Grappin is really Percy adds so much humour of this scene! This show is amazing; I can't get over it!! I love how Rex Smith just hits and sustains that last note like it's the easiest thing! Incredible! Does anybody know where the full show could be found?

Seriously I thought the same thing, the recording of this song is so tremendously passionate to the point of violence, sensuality, betrayal, and despair, I was expecting something grand and dramatic. If anyone performs or portrays this musical I hope they rectify this game of shadows and lies
