Hopefully, you're still alive and well. Very interesting video to say the least, I would have never made this connection. Thanks for making this video, I've only had a small introduction of Bataille and want to come this once I've read more of his work.

It’s interesting what you say about the themes losing their voice as the ages progress. Because the Ottoman theme only gains singing in the Industrial Era and then it becomes the theme’s most prominent element

So many people sleepwalk through life. Just today, my brother in law missed his flight to come visit us. This trip had been months in the works, all because he wasn’t paying close enough attention to himself. It truly feels meaningless to examine all these things and learn about the world when those we love hardly do the same and have a zombie like apathy for exploring such ideas. Who is this all for anyway?

I never believed in Santa because at my catholic home it was seemed as irreligeous, here in my country can get gifts from him and still be catholic I think most got them and after that also got gifts the 6 of january which here is celebrated as "day pf the wise kings" that serve the same purpouse as santa but have a religious background. But in my case the disbelief in them and other popular kid myths like the tooth fairy kinda helped in making me a exeptic, if my parents told lies about them what stops them from lying about other things to make me feel better? Kind of mentality, obviously wasn't inmediate but I believe it was one of many things that started my change.

Personally, I think it's more about how when you take a "civ" which exists only for portion of time, and try and blow it up to the scale of all of recorded history, you get weird artifacts like displaced tactics or technology. The Zulu eventually became a part of South Africa, and their culture evolved with the world. But in Civ 6, the Zulu cannot do that, because while they evolve, they are equally frozen in time. If they are conquered, it is not like what happened in real life, where the culture of Zulu changed in the wake of an empire, and survived through that change. Instead "Zulu" simply ceases to be, replaced by whatever moves in. Like you said, Civ 6 doesn't really define a civ in such a way as to let them be born, grow, evolve, change, die, merge, divide, or any number of things actual cultures do. But that's part of the beauty. It's a bazar alternate history, where Catherine de' Medici can discuss peace terms with Gilgamesh, where Montezuma has to worry about getting nuked by Gandhi, where Eleanor of Aquitaine and Kupe can become allies. The game (in my humble opinion) seeks to capture, not a culture per say, but a version of the culture, frozen in time, and then given the chance to evolve. All of these places lost to time are brought to the modern day, and in the same way, modern civs are brought to the past. I say all of this because I think this isn't meant to declare that there is some rightness to a group's progress, but that these are a celebration of a group of people at a particular moment, given the impossible task of being themselves through every stage of history. In the same way the America of Teddy Roosevelt played the simple strings of the banjo all the way to grand orchestral, the Zulu sang, so their music in turn follows the singing! At least that's the conclusion I came to. Might be completely off the mark I suppose. Anywho, looking forward to Civ VII.

ive watched this video like 8 times. This is the single greatest video essay on DARK. Most people get distracted by the sci fi and time travel and not the underling themes and philosophy that is core to the show.

Yeah it's objectively obvious that 1984 for more portrays the far-left in their rejection of facts (male/female), doublethink (thinking JD Vance is weird for posing in a women's bathroom in high school- meanwhile the far-left supports a man identitying as a "woman" sua sponte and obviously Newspeak (silence is violence- cringe).

sounds like an extreamly depressing series. acting like we have no choice in our own fate. interesting but yeah seems a downer. i tend to lately try to have some hope in life that its not all meaningless that its worth something and that we CAN have our desires if we just let go of our fear.

Male versus female? I think there is some significance in the fact that Adam, a man, seeks for death to end the cycle of suffering and Eva, a woman who can bring forth life, strives for life to continue without end, regardless of the suffering.

This is another symptom of how people only know of one really bad thing, and keep invoking that one really bad thing even when a much better comparison would be available. If you want to talk about consumerism leading to a loss of real individual freedom and the human spirit, the model is most certainly not “1984,” it’s more “Brave New World.”

The simplest that gender pronouns are not Newspeak is that Newspeak is designed to destroy words and multiple meanings, in order to limit the range of thought. Modern gender discourse is attempt (successful or not) to expand vocabulary and the gradations of meanings.

Wild how conservatives think progressive language is newspeak. when the entire point of newspeak is to prevent critical thought by simplifying language. If anything the progressive words are helping to combat newspeak.
