I got to live there briefly in the early 80's before moving to North County and graduating from SanMarcos HS in 1986. I left CA in 1989 and moved back east. I didn't return to San Diego until 2019, 30 years later. My first stop after getting off the plane was Windansea. I was happy to see the hut still on the rocks. Wedge is fun. I used to go out with my friend and dive into the waves. We would let the waves roll us under the water for fun. It trained us to know how to get back up every time. If you dive into the wave at the right time, you can also go right out the back of it, nice and smooth, and avoid the crash. Only, sometimes there's another wave or two in the set waiting to hit ya. 😂

I am 63 years old now and watching this video I realized that I am an adrenaline junky after surfing from 1990. Now I am taking care of my mom at 84 years old. 24/7. I miss my Friday’s surfing with the dawn patrol. Lv you guys :)

One wave after another from different directions, the size of that whitewater zone was nuts. No matter what direction it was chaos. Eventually, it just turned into a washing machine.

This break is so chaotic and raw. This is what the ocean looks like whenever I dream about it. Towering waves that bow to no man but then right when I think I'm about to be crushed I can breathe under water.

Everyone taking a jetski in the ocean, my word of advice as someone that grew up on skis in the ocean. Never play around in white wash like this if you’re inexperienced. If you’re in an inlet, stay away from shore.

Going to see these waves is easy and cheap, in Portugal, if you go a little away from the beach area you can have lunch for €10. a coffee 0.70cents a cake 80cents etc for breakfast. It's a pleasant visit and it's cheap, if you stay 3km from the beach you pay €35 for a room for two people with breakfast. It's worth the visit and of course there are even cheaper places if you go North. Visit Braga. See these incredible waves in Nazaré and enjoy visiting Portugal because it's cheap.
