Outside panels are a really bad idea. They get dirty, rust, corrode, insects and are subject to pranksters and criminals who turn off power.

Never combine copper and aluminum and never twist aluminum before using a wirenut.. You need to use the alumiconn on the ground as well or use an aluminum pigtail with the wirenut.

So happy i found your video. I am buying a house and the mast is pretty well bent but not somethinf i want to replace completely. Will be doing this. I have limited commercial electrician experience and feel like i could just replace the who meter and mast but dont want to currently.

Yes, the length of the neutral matters. A Type 1 SPD means it can be installed direct to the electrical supply without use a breaker. A type 2 goes after a breaker. The best place for it is those lugs (bolts) directly under the main breaker.

Why didn't you replace the panel on the inside ? Wouldn't it been easier then putting it outside?
@willstrick9Ай бұрын
If he would have replaced the inside panel he would need an outside disconnect . It cost less just to use a main breaker outside .

Make sure to use use COPALUM, AlumiConn 3-Port Al/Cu Wire Connectors, (or rewire), have no less than 6" from the wire end to where the wire comes in the box, and the wires extend no less than 3" from the outside of the box. And, it's a good idea to at least always use a quality non-contact electrical/current detector.

I find doing what I call Hot Pigtails works best for the most secure bond between alum and copper. I let the wires heat up naturally and they actual melt or fuse together. That forms the best connection possible. Then if there is any holes in the wire insulation from the bubbling I put electrical tape around it for safety. Been living in this home for 17 years no problems.
@MundiTaurus3 ай бұрын
Why do you post that in multiple videos? "the best connection possible" is one that is code compliant, hence, done right. AL and CU cannot melt together with heat/fire, stay that way, and be safe, especially after they separate. They do not expand and contract the same, their properties are different. There is no way to do what you say and have a proper connection. - Sheesh! Burning wires together, and even melting the insulation. That's a MAJOR defect! - In North America, the most recommended are COPALUM or a complete rewiring, according to the CPSC. Also, show one place in the NEC that says to do what you say. Many local codes are even stricter than the NEC. Stop relaying dumb, wrong ideas to people, so you don't kill someone (if you haven't already). And, consider yourself lucky.

I know this is a late comment, but just saw your vid. Just FYI, the little box you showed that goes in the house is the power supply for the amplifier. The 5G filter and amplifier are built inside the antenna housing where the driven elements are located, and are directly attached to the amplifier, which automatically adjusts its gain depending on the signal strength you are getting. Hope its working well. I have the same antenna mounted on a 65' tower, and it works great.

I installed one of these Televes antennas in a hilly region and had to point it thru trees. It’s working great. I did need to minimize the length of coaxial cable and connectors between the antenna and amplifier, but it worked great even with the hills and trees. I would rather not have the trees in the way, but it’s working so I’ll take it.

By mounting the SPD at the bottom of the breaker stack you are defeating the purpose of the SPD. If using a breaker it needs to be installed in the top left or right side breaker position (move breakers) to protect the circuits below. If the top two breakers are the proper amp/size and rated for dual connections (will be noted on side of breaker) you can use it instead of adding a dedicated breaker. Best way to install the SPD is to put ring connectors on the black wires and mount them to the L1 and L2 studs directly below the Main as seen at 3:37 on your video. No breaker needed. No need to move any breakers. Pop a hole either side of box with your step drill in line with L1/L2 for shortest wire run.

@kyles1706 ай бұрын
The Breaker feeding the SPD should be installed immediately after the Main breaker. That would surge events are captured prior to entering downstream circuits. Where you have installed it (At the very bottom of panel) means that the surge will enter the homes branch circuits before it enters the SPD. I hope that makes sense.

that's a fantastic antenna. I ran one for a while in my attic. space was kinda cramped and I was struggling to figure out how to pull in all the 4 majors in my area, so I ended up selling it. Now that I have figured everything out, I wish I still had it, although I'm confident the smaller Ellipse would work very well. Televes is a Spanish company, and a very good one. Cheers!!

You used a 7/16 inch end wrench on the hardware. That means that the fasteners are 1/4-20 (not 1/2 inch). Did you consider running the coax down the inside if the pole rather than using standoffs ?
@gr8dvd10 ай бұрын
Had exact same old antenna (10’ x 7’) replaced with much smaller Televes Ellipse (~ 3’ x 3’). Receiving a few more channels but (so far) no pixelation on any channel even in bad weather… heavy rain, wet white-out snow (caked antenna), and moderate wind (20-25 mph). No high wind as yet to report (not complaining tho) 😀
