Ah the fantastic Lionel Junior 1700E Hiawatha orange variation streamliner set. Such a fantastic line of trains, these Junior sets were, what with the many different variations made. Add the nickel-plated journals, spring loaded attachment rods and headlight and you have the ultimate 1930's classic toy train. I currently have 3 variations of this set: The chrome and red set, the yellow and brown M-10000 UP set and this HIawatha orange set. I will likely add the painted silver and red set just to round out my collection. I always thought a silver and black engine top only set would be a nice Flying Yankee replica. The yellow set was the toughest to find and mine has plenty of playwear patina, which I really like. It reminds me that these trains were meant to be operated and enjoyed. I am currently putting together a replica dealer display for these small sets. See attached link below. I have the tunnel, the station and will secure the correct landscaped plot with red roof cottage house. I will need to find several additional prewar trees too. I will replicate the mountain backdrop and platform with the correct street configuration. This will be the ultimate layout for these sets and mine will be bigger than the one I have shown here.
