I feel like the halberd is more of a destructive weapon than this can offer to show. With a halberd you put a LOT of momentum into a long stick, that blade is EASILY going to hit through armor if it's real. A spear relies on a straight stab which is effective, but with the right armor and footwork a spear can almost be made useless.

Its sparing, he cant just swing the damn thing and end it. You wont get out of its way in time, you can see it coming, if he had enough space to impart enough force into his swing. You will not stop the blow. Same as a zweihander. The Mass it what matters here. I would argue even un armored, if it was an actual fight 1v1. The spear is not going to win. You will not run into the guy with a halberd just to get a possible win. Your best bet is to run away.

At 25 secs, the halberd pokes the swordsman, and the attack stops. Huh, in real life, that poking would have done minimal damage at best. How is that realistically a point for the halberd man?

Cheers to Jacob! I'm Henry (fighter with bright red arms). This was my first HEMA tournament, and it was tons of fun. Jacob was an amazing fencer. I remember he basically locked off all of the combinations and options that I had and waited me out perfectly. He was also super nice and had great sportsmanship. (P.S The match got halted because I tried to use a one-handed thrust. This was against the rules, I just didn't know. My bad!)

More videos of this matchup! I've been looking all over for this Katana vs Scottish baskethilt sword kind of video. If you can add the targe shield with the dirk in the targe hand. I'm curious to see how that works out. I know of at least one WW2 veteran R.I.P. who witnessed this actual conflict in the Solomon Islands between the British, Canadian, and Japanese forces. After three battles both sides ran out of ammo. Big bayonet and swordsman charge on the 4th battle. The officers with basket hilt swords defeated the Japanese officers wielding their katanas. The allies were captured after Japanese reinforcements arrived, and they were sent to Malaysia where they were freed by the Allies later on. I was never expecting to hear this situation from my WW2 veteran music teacher.

when we talk about medieval fights people think that swords were the best weapons but a halbred is much stronger however you cant just carry them arround like a bag full of patatoes

You guys need more armor in order to really use that halberd... like a harberd. The halberd should be swinging very hard at distance to force the lighter weapons to overcommit to the blocks. Essentially knocking him off balance. When the lighter weapon is forced to over-commit to blocks, then to change to a Thrust. The thrust should be hard enough that you pick up his blade on your ax and press it all the way back to thrust with a spike head, caring the short sword with it on the ax. You need heavier historical type of armor for this. You can still simulate unarmored combat targeting with the armor, but you will be able to make full use of the halberd if you can hit hard. Don't worry about him stepping back when he sees your swing coming, step in and hit him with the back spike hard. Halberd backcut is just as deadly.

Halberd guy is really wasting his advantage by gripping it so high. Hold it by the base and adjust your grip as needed!

You can tell the Halberd user is more inexperienced than the swordsman. If the Halberd user was skilled that sword would never get close enough. Reach is king.

Weight from the weapons is a missing factor here.
