Another DC hero whose mother was named Martha. Astounding! He's less Superman than a early, Human version of the Martian Manhunter. The only powers J'onn has over him are invisibility, intangibility, and shape-shifting. And in as far as placing him in space goes, along with fighting alien threats, that was the theme of science fiction in the 1950s (well, that and giant bugs and lizards). They did give him his own miniseries. It took place after he died in the Rann-Thanagar War. He was resurrected (don't any of these heroes stay dead, other than the Crimson Avenger and Dove?) for "Mystery in Space" (collected into a 2 volume trade paperback). With his resurrection came a younger body (he's now physically in his 20s instead of his 60s), a loss of some super-strength (he didn't develop his full strength until sometime in his late 30s, at which time he had 1/10 the strength of the pre-Crisis Superman, and 1/10 of infinite strength is still pretty awesome; he could throw a T. rex like you or I could toss a medium-size bag of autumn leaves, and he once combined his TK and strength to lift a damaged cargo spaceship into orbit before it exploded), some reduction in his enhanced durability, golden eyes that were an outer sign of his new clairvoyance (distance seeing; basically X-ray and telescopic vision), and teleportation (local, and after each "jump" he had to wait 5 minutes before teleporting again; and interstellar, after which he had to wait an hour). Plus, he still had his old standby powers: telepathy, TK, flight, and limited space survival. He also lost his super-speed (I don't remember him having super-speed, to begin with, but okay). I've thought that he was pretty cool when they brought him back in the 1970s to fight the Secret Society of Super-Villains (I've always been a big fan of psychic powers). Yep, Captain Comet (he goes by just Comet now, and he claims to be his original self's nephew to cover up his resurrection) is a cool, awesome, and under-rated character.
