I always knew Bowie's version was a cover. It clearly shows the writer as Davies on the record label and sleeve. However, I had always assumed it was The Kinks' Ray Davies.

Love the synth lead, keyboards awesome in this song. Bass awesome man last time i heard this was in 1983, borrowed the album from a friend. Friend said the only reason he bought it was because of the cool cover. I loved it!
