Great list! I'll be bringing my elderly parents here next year and this gives some good ideas. Also, is it legal to fly a drone in Uvita, especially around Whale's Tail? I would love to video journal our trip, but want to respect local laws. Thanks!

It is legal to fly a drone in Costa Rica, but not legal to launch from National park lands, which is what the whale tail area is part of. The rules are very similar to that of the USA including geofencing to keep drones out of flight paths etc.

Thanks for the vid. Trying to plan another trip back to Uvita. Oh yeah you ain't lying about those Costa Rican rainstorms and the mudslides on the road that comes with it. I can drive in the rain but when I drove back to the airport to come back home to the US , it was in the middle of the night and that ride was probably the sketchiest drive I have ever made as I had never seen rain like that . When they say " Can only see two feet in front of you " that's a understatement. ( haha )

I was one who had confusion at first, but it's quite easy when you just double the number of the bill by a factor of 2. 5 mil = 10USD, 20mil = 40 USD, etc.

Bienvenido de nuevo a Uvita Señor Ed. You made it, as difficult as it always is getting on a plane to anywhere. As I’d said to you that day, we hadn’t had any real rain here in Uvita for 5 days and you picked a bad rain storm to be driving in that day for sure. Never a good thing to be caught up in an intense tropical rain storm, you never know what’s going on ahead of you with mud slides, tree falling on the road , accidents, or just a river of water rushing over the road. I’ve had the misfortune of being in a those a few times, and you just want to get home and get out of it. Airport traveling has gotten worse in all aspects. I find it hard to believe with all the modernization in the world, airports have become a bottleneck of issues, and they’re way too expensive to eat or drink in. Much of it thanks to unscrupulous people committing terrible acts in the past decades. Good to see you were able to get your new camera equipment and upgrade from the “Don-Cam”. 😅

i dont understand the lonely thing. im a retired single guy and live alone. if i get a little cabin fever i get in my car and go sonewhere and do something. i go to the gym, to the supermarket, to a diner, parks, etc. the freedom of not having to work is the most liberating feeling ever. i dont need to work to meet my needs. im trying to stay healthy by living a healthy lifestyle. no drugs and alcohol, good eating habits, exercise, etc i wish i could have retired at age 50 instead of age 60. im 68 now. i want to hit the pause button and stop getting older so i can have this time in my life for longer😁

Hola Señor Ed. Many of the good points you made are a part of my single man move to CR too. I had a plan what I thought I wanted to do when I got here, but that was not what I eventually did. I could still do that, and I just might. I have traveled a bit especially in the first year from North to South, a quick visit to Nicaragua and a few 2 day trips closer to home to Panama. My good Tico friend Alex has taken me on adventures to small towns, big cities like San Jose, high mountain areas seeing volcanos in the distance, waterfalls, historic sites and visiting his family and friends high up into the mountains of Perez. And a number of other major locations I’ve explored on my own like whale watching. You even took me on an day trip to the Marino Ballena National Park and a walk to the Whale Tail. I like you lived alone for quite a few years after my marriage disolved and did find a great relationship for 5 years many years after the fact. Getting into a relationship after I moved here was not on the list, and it’s still not. I’m happy to be busy some days with friends I’ve made, and others I find home life comforting and I also have my love of cooking as well. Everyone’s journey will be different, and you just need to decide what makes you happy to be here and enjoy the days as one folds into the next. I have managed to lose an incredible amount of weight because of my move to CR. I don’t miss work after 50 years of it, but I am starting to find a number of things to keep me occupied more and more, which is alright as long as I’m in control of my time and not someone else. You’re so welcome to of had the use of the “Don Cam” as you call it…anytime amigo. 🙂

I think it depends about the person. I for myself am perfectly fine by myself. But I know that other people are not. This is also why I think it's necessary that if you move to another country to immerse into the culture and learn the language to a level that you can at least have a simple conversation. And yes, long distance relationships suck. I experience this first hand right now. Yes, it's a huge adjustment to move to another country but when you're open to new things, a different culture and language.... I've seen gringos moving to Costa Rica being miserable and not adapting at all to the culture and language. But as I said, it depends on the person, some people, like me, are perfectly fine by themselves while other seek company. I love watching your videos and I hope to meet you in person at some point when I join my fiancée later this year with my little dachshund!

Thank you, amigo Ed, for this one. An important one indeed. Lonliness could be a killer, if you allow it to take advantage on you. I know it, as I cannot be all alone for myself for a long time. Great tips. I’m in a more remote area of CR so it was nice to hear your perspective coming from a more densely populated beach area. As an introvert, I believe my biggest lesson is how much I love living in this beautiful country away from traffic and commercialism, the Pura Vida life. I’ve made some of my best friends here in Costa Rica and found so much peace in my everyday life. FYI; coming from Florida I was used to the creepy crawly’s. There’s just more of them living out here in the jungle 😅

Great advice brother. I've been on and off in CR for 35 years. My wife and kids are Tico. My heart is half Costa Rican. Ive lived in CR when it was cheap and expensive. One thing most don't realize is to live in another country one must adapt to the culture changes. I will say this. The colonization of CR is horrible. It's making it so the locals cannot afford their own land.

Very well done. Balanced and true. I have 36 years on and off in Costa Rica. Im married to a Tica and have 2 children, 2 step children and a grand daughter. Costa Rica has charged tremendously in the last 30 years. Those moving there that think all will be amazing might need to do a bit more research. It can be very trying. Its defintely a huge culture shock for most. I personally love the country and will retire there. Most my family lives there. Thanks for sharing.
