However, you could probably play a cheapo Amazon flute and make it sound beautiful🎼!

Many, many thanks. I’m now 86 and remembering attending his concerts at Carnegi Hall when I was in my 20’s. I t inspired me to become a flutist. I was very amazed that this very large man was so light on his feet. His joy totally filled the hall and beyond. There will never be a duplicate.

The best, the ne plus ultra, Rampal *is* the flute.

So we hear 7 minutes plus of information about the construction of the flute, but not a single tone out of it? This is a bit like photographers who review all the bells and whistles of the newest Nikons, Canons, and Leicas, but never show a single image from any of them. Sorry, but THIS was not well thought out. Most of us buy a flute because of the SOUND, not because of the aesthetic carvings, bells and whistles in gold.

If you wish to hear Gareth playing - you can visit his KZbin channel to listen to him playing it: KZbin.com/garethmclearnon (also this is Gareth playing in the background)

Nah, I really enjoy these type of videos as it’s a great appreciation into the build quality and craftsmanship of these instruments. This WAS really thought out when you take into consideration the express purpose of the video, which was to express Gareth’s pride in his Irish heritage and having that reflected in his instrument. You can’t express that heritage in the sound of the flute unless you’re playing a specific piece, therefore, he’s opting to highlight it through the craftsmanship imbued upon this instrument. Using the camera analogy, it’s more akin to highlighting a custom paint job and engraving on an anniversary model. The photos it takes is going to be less relevant than how special that one camera is based on those unique carvings and engravings.

My father took me to enjoy Mr. Wilson's talents in the late 70's to early 80's when he was performing at Meany Hall on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle. I still recall that special evening.

@@robertgiles9124 You do realise that this was about a custom instrument most people can't afford, made with precious metals, and I was simply agreeing with her sentiment that inline G is the superior option to offset. But do go on about clean drinking water in a thread that has nothing to do with that.

Wonderful homage to the great JP Rampal,but......someone should have mention the existance of another fantastic flute player/ musician, who Rampal admired very much. His name??? You all know....Sir James Galway. Two colosal artists and also, good friends. I have played the Mozart flute and harp concerto with both. ,! Very proud about it. Neither of them will ever be forgoten.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Wondering why you chose the N Cut head joint over the P Cut? I play a Haynes solid silver handmade from the mid 70s with a Haynes gold head joint. Just thinking about what my dream configuration would be on a new Haynes (if I’m ever lucky enough to have the opportunity).

I so enjoyed this celebration of Jean-Pierre Rampal and the golden age of flute playing. Thank you to everyone who put this together. I met Jean-Pierre only once - at the NYFC’s first annual flute festival in NYC. I was on the board. Unfortunately, I did not study with him, but I did study with Alain Marion, his successor in Nice, so I share at least a bit of his legacy. After my summer with Alain, I wrote a magazine article titled “Passionate Abandon”. That was my takeaway from Alain’s class. So many touching stories and performances in this celebration. Linda, did I detect moist eyes after Jean-Luis Beaumadier’s segment? I shared this video, particularly the opening master class of Joan playing the Faure Fantasie, with my 9th grade student who is performing it tomorrow at the Texas Flute Festival. Imagine my delight when she instantly commented on Jean-Pierre’s phrasing, tone, and articulation. As Ransom said so poignantly, it is an honor to pass the torch on to the next generations of flute players. Thank you again for a very enjoyable hour and a half. (I should also say that my first “real” flute was a Haynes. 😊)

He was also mentioned in an episode of Cheers. Sam tells Diane that someone left a pair of tickets to a concert. She looks at them and exclaims, "Jean-Pierre Rampal?!" Sam answers, "I don't know, he didn't leave his name."

Linda Chesis. I am making a public statement. Which probably should be private. Haynes send this to her. I need flutes. I sent a message to flute center in nyc. I asked for Brannen 1002 because it comes up every time I open KZbin. There’s US constitutional(canonic law) in the flute parts. Based on my proofs. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven awarded me PhD LLD PhD. LLD should be issued at Cambridge - English law. I sent proofs to UChicago Booth school of business as one of the PhD’s is Economics. All of Beethoven are tone poems and center around The Fable of the Bee’s Bernard Mandeville Private Vices Public Benefits. Emerging economic theory the Bible etc. We need to talk. Safety concerns I have fell victim to stalkers and alternative facts brigade they’ve infiltrated the legal system. I need a piccolo too. My proofs keep coming up with the same answers; the clarinet is the Virgin Mary; built on a 12th; original sin; Learned Hand - the laws are in fingers from practice and switching from clarinet to flute. SO MUCH RESEARCH OMG. Gabriel. GÄB. I need piccolo too. Flute is so easy. Mine is being held together with tape. OMG I need to be working on this.
