Great video - very inspiring - I have a PT6 and am looking for the appropriate sockets to interface the heads. It is a 4 pin plug-in socket interface very similar to an Amphenol 4 pin plug seen in many old radios, but with symmetrical pins (one pin thinner).

I now have one of those Sparta Consoles that is working, but needs to be cleaned up from sitting in storage. They are cool little consoles. I would like to find a source for the knobs, one or two need to be replaced. It's a shame that today all I see is people using Mackie and Behringer Mixers for Podcast and Streaming. Something like the Sparta A-15B can be made, make it compact, but look like the old small consoles of the 60s and 70s.

I think there is a post on antique radio forum about how to make them

This wasnt a Regen, Perhaps you are thinking of the RS Globe Patrol. This radio was a full Superhet receiver; Albeit just a Mixer/Converter front end, and TWO(wow) (455KHz)IF stages. This was my first exposure to the world of shortwave and later, it inspired me to get my Ham license. I still have the QSL cards that I got from stations that I listened all over the world, from Ecuador to Australia :)

NICE Wish I could find a board like I ran back in the late 1970s at the AM radio station I worked at. They seem to be a rare commodity these days.👍👍💛

Hey Allen, it was nice to run across this video and hear Mike, N8ECR's voice again. I sure do miss him...It is interesting to hear him describe his antenna which he often referred to as the "wonder wire". I had the chance to see the wonder wire a number of times when I visited him. It wasn't much to look at but Mike sure knew how to make it play. Thanks again for posting this video... 73 de Brian W8KHZ

Love the Dymo labels. They're a requirement on a board of this vintage!
@scottbailey15602 жыл бұрын
Today, I prefer the labels we use now, the thin white or black plastic. Dymo makes them, and we now have the battery powered label maker. The newer labels are better because they don't make as much of a sticky mess when time to replace them, than the old Dyno labels that are on this console.

Heck yes!!! I clicked on this thinking it was gonna be bs. This could be this best video on KZbin. There is so much that can be learned from this. I can see the path of the combustion and how inefficient the airflow is. I wish the was a way to do this with a old big block hemi. Thanks for sharing

I worked at an FM that used the same board(5 pot board) for its main studio board. it was a board designed for remote broadcasts.

I'm going to speak for Bill because he hasn't posted in a very long time. I sincerely hope he's o.k. Anyhow, there was a AM Daytimer here that used one of these Sparta A-15Bs Console for a main console. They are great little workhorses. Today that AM Daytimer got a FM Translator and they use a Wheatsone/Audioarts Air II Console. Just in my opinion only, very overkill when stations just use one computer or two these days, unless the unused faders are used for guest mics.

I just acquired the same Sparta board as it was being tossed in the dumpster to clean out a storage room in our TV Station. Any idea of the year it was made?
@SpeakerFreak956 жыл бұрын
Ross Rowley mid to late 1960’s all the way into the early 1980’s. They were produced for a long time.

how powerful is that transmitter? Seems pretty pathetic for 200 volts input! I made a tesla is coil am transmitter, and at a frequency of 2.8mhz and at 3 volts input, i had about the same output power!!!
@fourfortyroadrunner6701 Жыл бұрын
Go back to school, please, and do some studying. The plate voltage does not define a transmitter output. Power --that is DC power "input" "to the anode" which was a common defining method back then is volts on the plate X current to the plate circuit. I doubt this oscillator is running more than 1/2 watt or so and IT IS NOT DESIGNED for large power output. It DRIVES the two PA tubes, 1625's which have an anode dissipation of around 30 watts each. These transmitters were operated fairly conservatively for longer life, plus power supply WATTAGE was limited in WWII aircraft. The bottom line, is you were likely using solid state components, AKA low voltage and higher current, and these old girls use higher voltage and low current.
