Thanks for watching! Would you also like to share some tips of chainsaw maintenance and repair as a small engine repair shop owner? I'm looking for chainsaw repairers who get vintage chainsaws and would like to share the tips of repairing and the story behind that chainsaw. Is that something you are interested?

I traded a box of shells for an old ms290, the issue I’m having is that the chain will tighten on its own when running? After adjusting the chain I’ll move it to make sure it moves freely and then it’ll tighten up and get stuck as I’m trying to move it, it’ll free up again sometimes then tighten up. Any idea what this might be? I’ve installed a new chain sprocket, new bar and chain, new chain guides. I have a new tensioner coming in but the tensioner seems to work fine?

A chain tightening up on its own is usually caused by the bar not being properly lubricated. This causes intense heat and friction causing the metal to expand and tighten the blade. Another possible reason could be an issue with the cover that is making it so it doesn't clamp down properly.

No mention of a worn out crank? If the crank isn't spinning true anymore it will cause slack in the chain, no?

i've used my husqvarna 150BT over 50 hours, checked spark plug recently was about to change (i've had blower 3 seasons) and it still looked normal. Still operates fine too so I am thinking I will just keep using it next year.

There are different carburetor adjustment tool kit sold on amazon. One is only with different screwdrivers inside, the other one comes with a spark tester and another comes with a carburetor cleaner and there's one more kit with the tachometer. Please feel free to contact our customer service team if there's something missing in the parkage. [email protected] is our email address.

This is the CORRECT way to make this adjustment. Beware the folks who switch the valves, that is the exhaust on the bottom and intake on top. Stick to the Briggs recommendations.

Or you can just hold onto the spark plug with your fingers and then pull on the string to tell if it’s sparking but it’s not very comfortable

Good video, all useful information. Blue smoke due to burning extra oil, say from worn piston rings, or a scored cylinder does have one advantage though! It helps to keep the Mosquitoes away while you cut the grass! :)

Thanks for your video! I was having fits trying to adjust the valves because of bad backfiring and a lack of starting. I kept thinking I was doing it wrong because no matter how perfect I thought it was I had a no start condition. Turns out that the flywheel key was sheared and the only way of figuring that out was by removing the cooling intake and mesh screen to check. You could clearly see the key-way in the crankshaft 1/4 turn past where the flywheel key-way was. Only a $6.00 part. I wasn't the original owner, and had no history of symptoms to help me figure it out

3:40 m/s tighting valve is too tight on 1st adjustment, i back off 1/8 turn or so on the adjustment nut to get a feel for the correct lash. How are you'll getting the fine adjustment when you first set valve lash & its too tight?

Yes, we noticed that the guy who helped out on camera is a DIYer and was more focused on quickly sharing the fastest method to measure worn bar length. The filming skill might not have been as polished. I specifically took a screenshot of the tape measure reading for these people who are extremely concern about it. Anyone who is interested in that reading, can check my link to the image. drive.google.com/file/d/1t68JgPJo4jUoC_D8dZ05XHi97tidk_-D/view?usp=drive_link
