So cool to see old home movies of America before it went to hell. The film quality is very high. I got to see Mount Rushmore in the early 1980s before the remodel and the main building still looked exactly like in did in the film "North By Northwest".

I would HIGHLY recommend you hire a private tour guide if going to Gettysburg. If you have at least 3 people in your group it's cheaper than riding a cramped bus and you get a more personal tour. They will drive your car to each site, many of which the bus doesn't stop at. Our guide went long by almost two hours because he enjoyed sharing the history so much. In all of my years, Gettysburg is the most sobering site I've ever been to.

Great Comment and thanks for watching. Yes I agree 100%. I remember the first time I visited Gettysburg it was overwhelming trying to get around and understanding the layout of the actions that too place over those three days. Bus tours or van tours are just barely hitting the highlights and more popular landmarks.

Love it - brings back a LOT of memories :) ! My good friend and I played "Combat" when we were younger too - I played the Rick Jason role (because I was tall, skinny and had dark hair) and my buddy played the Vic Morrow role (Jerry was shorter and had blonde hair). Our grenades were clods of dirt, and the year we got our "machine guns", boy, we were in business !!

Cheraw is named for the Cheraw indians, who assimilated with the Catawba indians who are the only federally recognized tribe in SC. The 1835-1850 $20 bill from the Merchants Bank of SC in Cheraw depicts a picture of a Catawba indian.

I went to Chesterfield-Marlboro Tech College in 82-84. My history teacher took us on a tour of Cheraw. One of the things I remember was that the Home Guard made up of 62 boys age 12-16 were hung by Sherman for their part in burning the bridge and allowing Hardee's 4th SC cavalry to escape,as well as being combatants out of uniform. It took the Yankees three days to build pontoons to cross the river into Marlboro County, where the Yankees occupied Bennettsville for two days before going through McColl and burning the Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Meanwhile, Sherman didn't wait to cross the river in Cheraw but left a subordinate General in charge. Sherman went up river and crossed in Anson County NC into Richmond County NC. There are still bullet holes in the Rockingham, NC court house. Eventually, Sherman's troops merged again at a place called five points on the North side of Laurinburg NC. I think also it's necessary to mention,Cheraw was the last place goods could be transported from the coast before the river becomes to rocky. Cheraw also had the railroad. Many items were sent from Charleston anticipating Sherman's advance. Sherman was once quoted as saying, the best wine he ever had was in Cheraw... Also Chesterfield County seceded from the Union on November 19th,1860. This was one month before SC actually seceded on December 20th. The Lycium building has the original feather pen used by Henry McIver to draw up and sign the ordinance of secession. Henry McIver is buried in St David's cemetery. Cheraw also had the Merchant's Bank of SC in Cheraw. The bank operated from 1835-1865. The bank printed money from 1835-1859. However, towards the end of the Confederate War the bank is said to have been a gold depository for the Confederacy. And was also the last bank to accept Confederate money in the South. Thank you for the video you shared, and keeping local history alive.... Lest we ever forget! Deo Vindice 🇸🇴
