so precious that they both wear little 'ped' man booties while drinking. There is nothing important here. I can go to the hair salon for better chatter. Some things simply do not need to be televised...

What happened to The First Time Show? Why can't I find it on headgum? My wife and I miss all the old bits like crazy and I can only find vestiges of the podcast here on KZbin. :( It feels like it's gone forever, but I REALLY hope it isn't. Is there any hope? 😢

The dialogue throughout the season makes it pretty clear that John was abused by Virgil. He tells Kevin that he hurt him a long time ago, in reference to John. If he had hurt one of the Murphy children, why would he say he hurt John and not Ericka? And being in his 70s, it would seem a long time ago to him would be before Michael and Evie were born. Later we learn that Michael knows what Virgil did and pleads that everyone deserves forgiveness, even him, but when telling the true story of Evie crying in the bathtub he says it was because their father was gone and they didn't understand why. He makes no other reference to Evie being abused. And it's not evidence for it, but there are plenty of reasons given for Evie you understand/joining the remnant. She likely knew that Erika was going to leave, her father was a local terrorist that people allowed to continue, their small town had been turned into a massive tourist attraction and was controlled completely by the government and their park rangers. It seems that Michael was even doing something similar, but in a helping way. Evie chose the remnant, Michael chose to help kill people and has seeming been doing it for a while with his relationship with the man on the tower. He just had a faith that Evie didn't.

The Nora leaving Kevin bit was also a projection of what she's feeling like inside. She feels responsible for her families departure, and now the 3 girls disappearing also, and perhaps even Kevin's looking insanity.

Good podcast! I first saw Peter in 2011 at Pitch and Praise in Paris, Ontario. My church wouldn't allow us to see his last talk because he encouraged doubt and critical thinking. So I bought his book and left that particular church not long after. Glad to find him again! Also, I think the technical difference between envy and jealousy is that one is envious when they want something someone else has (e.g. I'm envious of Dr. Oz's fame, money, successful TV show, etc.) and one is jealous when they fear losing something, or are suspicious (e.g. I'm jealous when my boyfriend speaks to attractive women).

I am Team Brett for the finale. I didnt feel like episode 7 was a downer and was satisfied with Nora going into the machine to either die or be with her children. To me, episode 7 as an ending fits more thematically with the show as a whole. All that said though, i didnt dislike the events of episode 8 and was happy to get more answers about the characters

Uber 2, is not a smart idea because you cannot obtain value from it. You pay for the automated cars whatever their value is, and you need to get the return of investment before or at the same time the machine stops working. The capitalist illusion that machines produce value, when they only aid to exploit the workers more to produce more relative surplus value. Elliot, you really need to read Marx. I agree on a lot of things with Peter, but here it is more difficult. Go into Marx as an economist, because this philosophical angle does not do justice to his work
@vidividivicious3 жыл бұрын
If we are discussing scientific socialism and not utopian socialism as Marx and Engels really intended, the reason the cooperative model is not "popular" is because they cannot out compete capitalist business. Capitalists can get away with lowering their workers wages and invest in new tech to cheapen their goods, while workers at the co-op would oppose having their wages lowered. A co-op is not the answer nor what will outcompete capitalism, because market rules dictate that profit must be maximized to crush any other competition. Let's stop with the libidinal stuff and do hard economics , capital has to reproduce or it is not capital. Capital is self expanding value. Why all this? The goal of this economic system is not to serve man, but to increase capital. Any benefit we derived from capitalism is but a side effect. The goal is to reproduce capital and nothing else. Capitalism carries within a contradiction that will make it implode once it cannot sort of the obstacles at hand

Elliot needs to read the first volume of Capital to get out of his mindset

In the part where Peter explains about how one can deny the desire of the other and in some sense get some enjoyment out of it, it got me thinking about sadism and similar stuff. Like, a sadist might deny someone else their desire by depriving them of it, cutting access and having power on when, where or how they get what the victim desires. Then it got to me, these people want the victim's desire, but try to get it by putting a themselves between the victim and the object of desire. They in a way reroute the other's desire so it goes through them, they become l'objet petit a. That explains why the pair sadist/masochist works so well, because perverse enjoyment in the masochist is about enjoying the obstacle, and the sadist becomes the other's obstacle
