It's a shame Sonic 2 didn't sell well in Japan initially. They put a lot of effort into these commercials. Especially for this one and the one for CD

I would love to see a deep dive into Sonic's quite lacking cultural relevance in Japan, an exploration on why it never did all that well, especially in comparison to basically everywhere else.

@@Mitsuraga Its probably because the Mega Drive didn't have much of a presence in Japan during its lifespan. The Super Famicom and Nintendo pretty much dominated the home video game market over there until the PlayStation came out and took over.

Well, yeah. I just mean I want to see something that really gets into that subject, what people in the country said of it at different times in the series' history, speculation as to why it never caught on, that sort of thing. I know the broader reasons why, but that doesn't make the thought of further detail less interesting to me.
