Best interview ever! Had ZERO knowledge of Saleen cars and history other than that they souped up a Ford Mustang but now have profound respect for the man and the brand. As well as the interviewer who had excellent manners and demeanor. Really a great production and thanks for sharing.

Sadly, no longer exists. Was probably the best collection of French automobiles in the US. One persons obsession becomes a way for many of us to enjoy history and learn. I finally got a chance to see the collection after four attempts to see it a few years ago. Very impressive collection.

I recall that some of the GTO's that car magazines tested back in the day turned out to be ringers - they had removed the 389 and replaced them with a 421! In those days you couldn't tell externally looking at the block whether it was a 326 or the 421, the blocks looked the same!

This guy said the Firehouse Five Plus Two played bluegrass music. Sorry- no. It's sad that music has become some unknown to the general public so much. Ward's band started in 1949 playing west coast traditional jazz (some call it Dixieland) and lasted until1971.

According to "Last onslaught on Detroit" by Richard Langworth, the deal with Oldsmobile to by their V8 engine fell through when GM, at the last minute raised the price to the point that it was no longer economically feasible. Perhaps, GM execs realized the lighter Kaiser would have had a performance advantage over the Olds 88. And while an in house V8 was under development, the money was not there to get it into production. Instean, they chose to build the Henry J. The unfinished Kaiser V8 may have formed the basis for the first AMC V8.

Interesting how much that front end looks like a mid-1970's Oldsmobile or GM. Wonder if there was some inspiration from it?

There was one of these on CL a couple of years back that needed restoration and was missing the supercharger. Would have been a good candidate for a swap of a ‘55 Olds V8 with a J2 setup.

My first car was 1966 Corsa 140 hp in 1968 ($1250.00); tried to keep it in family but it did not hold up well when it was in storage while I was away and for over 35 years. I have sentimental/"what if" feelings when I see them today.

#498 is in my garage right now. He needs to research his facts better. There were 400 built in 57 and 304 in 58 so a bit hard to sell 800 as stated. Also the price was closer to $13,500. The only option was air conditioning. Once I heard the 800 figure I had to give up.
