Olmsted wrote 3 books on slavery, and rode thru the southern states interviewing slaves, slaveowners, previous slaves, previous slaveowners, children of slaves, etc., and would knock on doors, asking, "would you have corn for our horses and an abode for my brother & I?" One book was neck-and-neck with Harriet Beecher Stowe's book, and he knew her. I read 18 books by and about Olmsted during Covid, and I was fascinated, enthralled, and entranced! Besides having a big part in the way Fort Hill Farms looks today, he played a big part in The Civil War, being tasked by Lincoln and Grant to be Executive Director of The US Sanitary Commission (became The Red Cross), Yosemite (being tasked by Lincoln to be executive director of The Yosemite Commission), Niagara Falls (he took out all the tchotsky shops) and put up 1st fence, and, not least of all, wrote a 14- pg report on how public cemeteries should be kept ---and the way they still are today! Call me for your Guided Nature Walk, you'll be enthralled, entranced, and excited! Kristin
