I burn lots of scrap in clearing land etc. producing lots of ask and a little charcoal! This helped find toon my efforts in the future. I tried the closed barrel which took large amounts of wood. This is natural and get the carbon to your garden instead of the atmosphere! Thanks!!

I bet more suckers will pop up in others areas.. You can possibly use a wider chip brush just pour it in a wider container😊
@GardenHands

Agree! Wider brush would work just as well. And if I remember correctly she applied it a couple times and saw a reduction in the number of suckers that came back. Not a 100% solution.

Thanks for watching. I think they cook down what they can in the finishing pan over the arch and draw off about 5 gallons worth. Then they cook it down further on the stove. I've made a note to include that in the videos for next year!

I am stuck in Colorado but my sugar bush is in Vermont. I have an ag exemption which means I have to sugar no matter what. Plan is to move to Vermont full time. February has been cold. So no chance of tapping. The weather was good today but it’s getting cold again tomorrow. The states surrounding Vermont have had good early flows. Some in PA were even 2.5 percent flows. I may wind up waiting out this season. I can run about 3000 taps but I simply can’t get it done this year.

One nice thing when you make charcoal when I made it in a trench or a barrel is if you’re using charcoal for a garden you can just fill the barrel clear full of water or crush it up first into quarter inch sizes and then fill it with water. Add one or two five gallon buckets of chicken manure then let it sit to be inoculated or the charcoal to absorb nutrients and then you can add it tk your garden or in the bottom of the holes before you plant your plants. But ya I’ll have to try your method cause I could use the not completely done stuff for cooking.
