You know, the red keep is pretty much a trap. If you were to lose control of the city, you cant even get to the dragon pit without traversing the city in between. or even leave the castle.

we're of course supposed to disagree with the sexist members of Rhaenyra and Alicent's counsels when they talk about women being the weaker sex and unfit to rule during war but that's exactly how the writers have been portraying Rhaenyra and Alicent this whole time. Neither character has done anything during this whole season because they're preaching temperance and restraint and peace even after the war has started. Based on how she's been written, Cole was right to side against Alicent, she's not prepared to do the terrible things that must be done to lead her side to victory, she'd just write letters to Rhaenyra, that's all she's done since the end of season 1.

This episode really shows us why Daemon wouldn't be a good King he lacks diplomacy while Rhaenyra lacks his resolve hence why together their stronger i fully believe Daemon won't betray her and his character is gonna come full circle by the end of the season and fight for Rhaenyra.

im guessing the spoiler you saw online was the meme of people comparing Catelyn Stark's treatment of her husband's bastard to Rhaenys's treatment of Corlys's bastard

"You would think the security were a bit higher" - it looks very thin in the show and somewhat better in the book (guards are killed) but boils down to the same: secret passages to inside rooms were used and the older Targaryens built their own security hole. We see this in S1 when Daemon tells Rhaenyra about passages to her own bedroom no one else knows.

The rat catcher and his dog are a common sight in the castle. We see them walking around twice early in the episode and that's how they can walk unquestioned through the throne room in the evening. The were walking past it already when Aegon was hearing about the blockade earlier on. This changes when they have to go upstairs. The man says other rat catches work upstairs and doesn't want to go for fear of being noticed. When forced to go up, he kicks the dog so it won't follow and give him away.

You might be right on how weirdly easy it is to get into the red keep and vice versa. But as far as travel times go, Dragonstone and Kings Landing if you look at the map can't be more than a day or two away. If anything Rhaenyra took a weirdly long time to get back.

Aegon Aemond and Daemon are hands down the most interesting characters for me this season i really like that Daemon sees a little bit of himself in Aemond probably more than he can admit And Aemond admires Daemon i like the parralel between them probably hinting at a future confrontation who knows 😯

There is no season 3 miss cheese and crackers.

the book portrayed everyone as morally grey and willing to fight and kill for themselves, their family or for the throne. the show turned all the female characters into anti-war activists who keep saying they want peace while all the dumb powerhungry bloodthirsty men want war and death. they're doing this to try to make the female characters seem wise but peace is obviously impossible at this point and none of the women advocating for peace have any sort of terms or plans so it just makes them look naive and foolish. rhaenrya should be listening to her counsel instead of listening to rhaenys or wasting her time meeting with alicent.

Alicent’s brother was actually in the first episode of season 1 I believe. He’s the guy Daemon beat in the jousts.

the white clock was aegons friends during the two first episodes, one of them was the guy who introduced him as the magnanimous and they were all drinking with him in the throne room during the death of his son

the brother was the one who got tackled by daemon in episode 1 on his horse

I can understand why the style of this episode might not be everyone's cup of tea. It was definitely a bold choice. Personally, I loved it. I'd be interested to see what you think about this episode once you reach the end of the season. I feel like some of the scenes they showed us here that might have just seemed extra/unnecessary actually give us some insight into certain things later in the season. I also enjoyed how some of these scenes gave us a glimpse into things we've heard before as well. In season one Carmen tells Fak that he didn't go to Michael's funeral, but then we find out in this episode that he was there and just couldn't bring himself to go in. Heartbreaking. I'm also very excited for the next season of Severance!
