This is one of your best! I was teaching my standard schnauzer to help pull me up a hill. He was not large but very strong and actually helped, I needed it. We were not real successful unless my wife was ahead coaxing him. I would move the lead to his service dog vest. On a flat I did ok( at this point) do you think it might be easier if I had a loop handle like for blind folks. I’d rather use a vest in the dog. Any suggestions ? What would you do with Fluffy? Anybody else have suggestions? If this is inappropriate for here, sorry, just delete. Keep up the good work

Thank you for this! I'm 18 and mentally and physically disabled, I'm starting college in January and I will be living on campus with my service dog. I have social phobia, PTSD, selective mutism, autism, fibromyalgia, POTS, and a lot of other things. I can't go out in public without a friend of family member being with me so it's going to be rough to go to college alone with just my service dog. I dropped out of school in 6th grade because they would not work with my accommodations, so I homeschooled myself. I recently got my highschool diploma by doing the HISET and I got very high scores which was insane! I always thought I was stupid because my teachers treated me like I was because of my disabilities. I had to take an accuplacer test for college and I got a high score too. I feel a bit more confident about going to college. I hope I will do well so I can become a geologist and help learn about the earth and ways to help the ecosystem, I also want to become a zoologist so I can help out animals. I'm scared and excited to start my life. Luckily my friend goes to the same college and we will be roommates so I will have some help too!
@thefluffypoodle6 күн бұрын
Wow, this is so inspiring! You’ve shown incredible resilience and strength to reach this point, especially after all you’ve been through. Completing the HISET with high scores and doing well on your Accuplacer is an amazing achievement, never doubt your intelligence or capability! Your dedication to pursue both geology and zoology is so impactful, and the world could really benefit from your passion to protect the planet and animals. Starting college can be intimidating, but it sounds like you have a solid support system, with your service dog and your friend as a roommate. You’ve already overcome so many challenges, and I’m confident that you’ll do great in college. Wishing you all the best on this exciting journey… you’ve got this!

The PC was still getting worked on when I went to University! 😂 All on line is hard work. You're teaching yourself. Pace yourself. Study, do laundry, study, eat, study, pick up children etc. You'll be less sore and will problem solve better. Glad you got into college. Make friends with people who get your issues too. People don't realise that you are disabled if like us we look perfectly "normal" or healthy.

Physical Therapy can be a lifesaver. However, most of the therapy necessarily has to be done at home as often as instructed. No pain is permitted with the exercises, not at all. If there is pain, it means stop and figure out what's wrong with the help of the therapist. Physical Therapy is a self-help program. There has to be discipline and dedication. But with a good therapist and one's own effort, miracles can happen. I would not be mobile or functional at this point without it. And, at the age of 71, I still do the exercises I learned 25 years ago. The way it worked for me is that I went to the Therapist and was taught several exercises, some of which had to be done on their equipment, and some I could do on my own. They gave me "homework" exercises. Every time I returned, I reported on how I was feeling, along with any problems or improvements I noticed. Then they wanted me to do the exercises they had me do at home so they could see that I was doing them correctly and they corrected me as necessary. Again I did the exercises on their equipment, plus any new exercises I was to learn and do at home. I went 3x a week in the beginning and it tapered off as time went on. I kept all my appointments, and did all the exercises as instructed. The therapist group I worked with had a very warm, heated pool. Not a hot tub, but a therapy pool big enough to for several people to exercise and swim in. Oh man, it was wonderful!

have you been to a decent physical therapist? I've had lots of testing done, including nerve testing, and sometimes the tests make sense and other times they don't - our diagnostic tools aren't always perfect. Have you had an MRI? If you haven't, I think you need one to see what the current state is of your neck surgery. Sometimes when you have surgeries where things get pinned up/fused, then things on the outside of that wear faster because have to do more work. Very common with backs and necks. When I hear weakness, it makes me think you have maybe some sort of disc herniation. I'd say work on getting an MRI. Without the imaging, it's hard to say what's going on. MRI you'll need to go into a tube, if you have any issues with that tell the doctor beforehand and get some diazepam. 5-10mg should do the trick. they probably should have given you something for your nerve test too. they can write scripts for just a few pills that way there is no risk of dependency.

Your purpose is to live, have fun, grow, learn and love as best you can. See if you can find something good to do for others. The Persian mystic/poet, Rumi said, "The Soul is here for its own joy".
