The NWA world heavyweight championship had completely no meaning to it since Jim Crockett went ahead and made WCW along with other shenanigans.

Two things...referee Hebner had the slowest three count in history! Second, thank god for Roman Reigns being a solid champion. There was such a long run of changing champions every month it was ridiculous. The WWE loves to tout that "so and so" is a 10 time or 14 time champion. Well that's really not a big deal since the belts changed hands every fine minutes back in that era. John Cena held the belt so many times but sometimes for a couple of weeks lol ! A great champion is someone who HOLDS the belt not someone who won it 15 times...because don't forget... they also lost it 15 times!

Nwa title meant nothing after the territories died. After Kerry von erich won it and then flair got it back it died shortly thereafter. It basically was the JCP then WCW title as there wasn't much of an NWA afterwards. The national meetings ended in like 84 or 85.
@sameeknowsitall24 күн бұрын
I’d say it died once wcw got a hold of it. It was officially dead when Shane Douglas threw it. It gained some sort of meaning once tna got a hold of it but once tna left them it completely died.

The WWF Light heavyweight title actually existed in a prior incarnation in Mexico and Japan (WWF used to have relationships with UWA and New Japan in the 70s and 80s), later becoming part of the unified J-Crown championship and was one of the many belts that Ultimo Dragon carried when he appeared as J-Crown champion on WCW television in 1996. So technically, Dragon was the first wrestler to hold a WWF and WCW championship simultaneously when he became the Cruiserweight champion. In November 1997, the WWF requested that the title stop being promoted. The J-Crown was disbanded, with champion Shinjiro Ohtani vacating all the titles except the IWGP Junior heavyweight, and Taka won the title in the WWF the following month.
@scypsylock9402Ай бұрын
The NWA title had meaning up until the late 80's - early 90's when there were some territories still in business. The actual meaning of the NWA title belt has been lost it seems with even today which I don't understand. That title belt meant you were the World Heavyweight Champion, the traveling champion who defended that belt all around the world - Japan, Australia, Mexico, ETC. That was what that title belt meant, and it has not meant more than just another championship belt since Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair had it last. Now, it WOULD have its meaning back IF the NWA decided to do something different than WWE, such as bring back a territory system back. Have AEW in the mix, too and start scouting for the best indie promotions in each territory of the states here and then you will not only have the true NWA back, but also have some GOOD wrestling where anything can happen and the champion travels all over the country. They can do business with NJPW if they are still interested in the idea too in Japan. That is how I see it as and how it can work. Just keep the cooks out of the kitchen, or else you'll have too many egos adding their own opinions into the same stew. That was what happened last time in the 80's where greed killed it.

It didn't mean anything in the late 80s.

Yep. It has never been the same since Turner completely changed all the branding of their company from NWA to WCW around the end of 1990. Even when they reintroduced the Big Gold belt as the NWA title in 1992 (it was labeled as the "WCW" title before Flair left with it the year before), and it was acknowledged that WCW was a member of the NWA, an alliance of promoters worldwide, it was still treated as the secondary "world' championship behind the WCW title.

@@Rjensen2 - Thanks for the friendly response you pencil-necked geek.
