As I've heard from other coffee youtubers, spinning your tamper while adding pressure is bad for the extraction. But I still doesn't know if it's true or not.

My Hottop roaster recently died on me and I'm looking for a replacement. I had issues with the Hottop's capacity and with no dealers in the UK, sourcing new filters/replacement parts became a tiresome affair. However, 10 years of loyal service is not to be sniffed at. Now, though, I have the opportunity to tick the boxes the Hottop couldn't. Praise goes out to the great people at Hottop, a family company. I picked up my machine from Chang Yue's son, the World needs more people like him and Shelly, back in Taiwan, was always helpful and an encyclopedia of information. I looked at the Cormorant, but thought it a little too 'Heath Robinson'. The Aillio appeared better assembled, but at the price point I want a much better cooling arrangement and the pointless bean tryer [yes pointless], will have me on my soapbox. The classic version weirdly placing the tryer handle in the path of the evacuation shute. Also a manual shute itself is far from impressive. It's a strange marketplace with, sadly, too many designs requiring continual adjustment [or bluntly, phaffing about]. This is fine for the fantasists who think they're running a scientific experiment [but have no real understanding of science], but I'm all grown up. So far buying pre-roasted beans has been a bit of shock. Witnessing up close the treatment metered out to innocent beans by charlatans is something I can do without. In my continuing search I've just begun to scratch the surface that is Turkey. Hope may be just around the corner and 2,700 miles down the road.

Excellent video! Thank you! Would you recommend this machine in terms of shot quality? Is it a dealbreaker the fact that it doesn't have an OPV?
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 4 күн бұрын
If you grind correctly, you don't need an OPV. Most people grind too fine and rely on the OPV. All that said, the V2 will have OPV amongst other things. All listed on our website.

For the longest time, the ek43 was the gold standard. In general i didn't like the espresso from it at coffee shops. I always thought it spun too fast. I think lance confirmed that, or hoffman did too. I'm looking forward to this grinder and speed variability. Burrs are pricey but if the time comes to try a different one. I'll be happy there is a huge selection.

Is there a way to control how much pressure is being used? The machine advertises 15 bar, but can you change the pressure? Ideally, I would like to pull espresso with 9 bars of pressure.
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 17 күн бұрын
Theres a bit of a misconception behind 9 vs 15 bar shot. If the grinder is dialed in correctly it can pull a 9 bar shot regardless of the pumps pressure. All that being said, we will have an updated legato with 9 bar OPV for when the grind is not correct.

if the burrs are reinserted 180degrees out by mistake how would you tell if you continued to re-zero?
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 17 күн бұрын
If put in 180 degrees off, might be fine, might not be aligned. never know. If you grind seems really far off, can always flip 180 to see if it goes back to the way it was before.

I have the Pesado High extraction baskets size M and L. My go to before was the 18 g VST, but there is no going back from the Pesado. The Pesado High extraction filters does require a finer grind and my Eureka Perfetto had to go as it could only handle dark roast for the Pesado. Super happy with the portafiler and filterbaskets from Pesado. It really makes a taste difference. Use mostly the medium filter with 15-16g of coffee. Mind you that these filters are much ticker than any other filers I have tried and also had mine for about 6 months now and it has no bending like the VST got pretty fast.

Are there new versions of the gen 2 releasing? I just received mine with a silver power button on the side, a black dosing cup without the collar extension, and a rubber attachment that allows it to fit smaller 54mm dosing accessories. I actually prefer these options, but its even different still than what you're showing. Mine shipped from China I'm pretty sure.

Not sure this question'll make sense, but on my Rancilio Rocky, I can unscrew a part on the inside so that I can bring the zero point to the very front, center of the machine where there's a little arrow that it lines up with. On this, I'm good with finding the zero point, but that little point is off-center and points at about 5 o'clock. I mark that point with the ring and then turn it to to my grind point. It just bugs me that the little ring and that zero point can't be set to the front, middle. Or can it all be adjusted internally in some way to do that? Make sense?
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 25 күн бұрын
Only way is to zero and replace the sticker. Rocky a totally different internal design.

budget 900, only pull-over coffee, need brightness, df64v change burr to SSP RS MP is better choice???
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 25 күн бұрын
Not sure if I totally follow, but will throw a few things out. If only pour over DF64V with MP is great. DF83 with MP will also be great. I don't like 64 cast for anything much, for 83 cast, can be good, but tends to be sweeter for some coffees which I don't really consider brightness. I don't recommend cast. Id go MP in either grinder. Don't expect it to be the end all for espresso, espresso MP is quite limited to origins.

@@EspressoOutlet tks. I only use for filter coffee, no espreso. Many people recommended the Fuji Royal r220, but I want to buy a newer kind machine. It sounds like I can confidently buy the DF64V with the SSP MP burrs.

Is there a way, I'm wondering, to adjust the burrs or something else to move the zero point to straight downwards centered on the spout? Having my little ring point to around 5 o'clock is odd to me and bothers me. Yes, this is a first-world problem...but I paid a lot for this thing.

Can try to peel the dial sticker off with hair dryer or heat gun. Or can buy a new sticker from turingrinders.com and re-apply over the old to point down.

I have a DF64V with the standard DLC coated Burrs. Just ordered a set of SSP HU Burrs as I drink mostly espresso and milk based drinks. I heard MP Burrs are tricky to dial in and as I often swap out my coffees I don't have the time to dial in tricky Burrs. I'm hoping the HU will bring out the flavours of espresso especially the lighter fruitier roasts. And also I heard the DF64V is noisier than the standard burrs so hope the HU will be quieter. Your thoughts?
@EspressoOutlet
@EspressoOutlet 25 күн бұрын
HU and stock are fairly similar especially for espresso. Not following the second part about DF64V being louder. Pretty much all SSP burrs are more noisy.

thx for your advice ! - didn't notice the rubber plungers are asymmetrical :D - unavoidable one of the screws fell off into the grinder, but it came back without problems holding it upside down. One ist for shure, even if you're a lazy bear, after 500 double shots the inner outlet is completely clogged and flapper and outlet need a good clean - there was quite a lot crusted ground coffee stuck inside. Should clean it regularly...

can you do pre infusion .
@EspressoOutlet

Technically yes, has the 3 way valve which you can pull partially up. With it in the non plumbed mode, you will only get the pressure from the boiler pressure which without the pump on is usually quite low. With the machine plumbed, you will get additional pressure for a better pre-infusion. This is true of all machines like this.
