This film was not very popular when it first came out, mostly due to the frustrations caused by Umbridge. But over the years the fans have come to love this installment because it really contains the heart of the series. It doesn’t do much to advance the overall plot, but the emotional scenes really put the rest of the series into perspective, and it gives us Harry’s true motivations for fighting so hard against darkness. So much great writing and character development here. This is the heart of the whole series.

As an avid fan of the books, my issue with this film (and most of Yates' films for that matter) was the pacing and feeling like the ending/climax was a bit rushed. They made the longest book into the shortest film, and it was hard not to feel a little betrayed over that. The best summary I've ever heard of the thoughts I share about it is that it's like a cliff notes version of the book - just a collection of "stuff that happened" in the book, in sequential order, without any distinctive dramatic weighting. The only Yates film I don't feel that way about is Deathly Hallows pt 1; because they split that book into two parts, it gave the film so much more room to breathe and take its time, resulting in a highly accurate adaptation of the first half of the book, I think only one chapter is missing. It's one of my favorite films in the series, because of both the faithfulness to the book, and the cinematography is probably the best in the series, it's very aesthetically pleasing film IMO.

All of that said, while this was one of my least favorite films at first, it has grown on me over time and is now in the better half of the films for me. I respect Yates' overall "balanced" approach at the series; it's hard to imagine his films with any other tone/being helmed by anyone else at this point. Adapting these books, especially as they got longer, and maintaining a relative sense of consistency between the films over such a long span of production, was an almost impossible task and they actually pulled it off. At the end of the day these could have turned out so much worse than they did, so even though I felt like Yates was a bit of a mixed bag who played things a bit too safe, I'm ultimately just glad the rest of the films weren't like Goblet of Fire.

Also also, I really didn't like the soundtrack to OotP early on, the theme over the montage of Umbridge interviewing everyone and taking over the school being the perfect example, that sort of descending, dancing strings theme just felt foreign or out of place to me, because it wasn't like the music in the other films, which FELT like Harry Potter music to me. But as I've grown to like the film, the music now feels extremely appropriate, and even iconic.

Hey man, glad to see you back! This movie is definitely a big turning point in the series, seeing Voldy in the flesh for the first time, and making us fall in love with Cedric and then ripping him away like that. I dont know bout you but romeo and juliet is groundbreaking during rennaisance period, the time where william shakespear created this story is the best love story ever told. No love story can match this. It shows that even in death you would want to be with each other. I never treated it as romcom or comedy type of story but a tragic story. Star crossed lovers means you are not meant for each lover, a tragic end. I watched it before and got hooked and verona is not in US but in italy. And I really love all the little edits you do. Sometimes I wish I could implement more stuff like that in my videos, but I'm not sure it would mesh with my commentary style as well as it does yours, because it fits very well in your content :) Since you were so mind-warped by the exterior of Hogwarts, if you're a gamer at all, I highly recommend you play Hogwarts Legacy. You get to explore the entire castle and grounds, as well as Hogsmeade, and it's just an awesome game in general. The genius of this series is that the tone shifts as the characters age, which reflects the growing maturity of the average reader. Rowling was very smart to design the books that way. Most kids would "age out" of the story after a few books if she didn't keep them involved by turning it into something that continues to keep them engaged. So from here on, do bear in mind the tone gets darker and more mature. As for Harry not confiding in Dumbledore: you have to keep in mind, Harry has been abused and neglected by adults his entire life up until meeting Hagrid and learning he was a wizard. He's had a lot of experiences of being punished for telling adults the truth. So while he does believe Dumbledore is a good man, he doesn't quite trust him yet. A lot of Harry's motivation stems from years of abuse and trauma/pressure from being "the chosen one." Which is why I like him so much, to be honest. He's not this unrealistically powerful kid with no issues. He's got problems from what he's been through, as any kid would. As any adult would too. He's flawed and relatable, and I love that. Fun reaction! I'm very glad you're planning to cover the entire series. I read that you had copyright issues, and I feel for you! Editing for copyright is such a pain sometimes.

So while I think you should definitely keep doing movies as well, I think you ought to consider tossing in a show to react to on a regular basis. Breaking Bad has been very good for my channel, plus the show is FANTASTIC. Older series have their major diehards too (I'm covering the X Files as well, and although they get less views than BB, I get a lot of watch time because those who do click on the video often watch most of it).
