Great idea but with bad knees that probably won't work. You also need strong arms.

I don't know where this video was made, but as a ski instructor I would be fired for teaching you to bend that knee in. It may work but we teach it where you transfer your weight from side to side while maintaining the space between your legs. If you turn that knee in you will no longer have that between your legs. I'm thinking it's a European thing.
@juancatasus9709
@juancatasus9709 8 ай бұрын
When you gain enough experience, you realize that simply applying weight to one foot isn't effective; it's about balancing and turning the ski. You can put 100% of your weight on one ski, but it won't change direction unless the ski is on its edge. This video is a clear explanation and a valuable tip, unrelated to European methods. Avoid getting stuck in old-school rigid methodologies.

If I'm turning right, i push on my left leg. What about the right leg?
@juancatasus9709
@juancatasus9709 Жыл бұрын
Its not just pushing its also balancing on the left ski and to be more precise I balance in the inside of the ski, slightly on the edges.... and not on a flat ski. Just by doing this correctly you will start to drift to the right .. Now that I'm starting to drift I also help the ski by actually turning the ski/foot, this way I complete the turn. With the outside foot, if you inside is foot is doing the correct thing, your outside foot should not interfear to much. If it does, then make sure that the ski is flat and unweighted and keep you legs apart, that should do it. Off course there are other ways to correct particular issues, but that's why sometimes you'll need a lesson too! I hope this makes sense...
@dropinsnow4608

The inside ski during a snowplow turn (in this case, as you turn right, is your right ski), tries to stay light (you try to place most of your weight on the ski exterior of your turn, left ski here, and balance on it) and transition the ski from the interior edge to be flat (and eventually to the exterior edge as you improve) to facilitate the pivoting of this ski to the right, with the same radius and timing as the exterior ski.

We are a small ski school, we started the videos with a lot of good intentions, the C19 struck, and after that, we always have been so busy and many other circumstances haven't let us carry on filming more tutorials, but we are committed to try, if we get a bit more snow this season, film and edit more tutorials this winter... Teaching a snowplow turn is never a good way to teach people what skiing is and how to do it. It ruins all beginners and makes learning parallel turns much harder. The skis are made to turn when you balance on one and then the other. You can't balance on a ski that isn't under you. Will your skis turn in a snowplow? Yes if, you are doing everything right with the rest of your body. When your speed picks up too much, you will lose control and crash because a snowplow is only good for very slow stops like in a lift line.

@@dropinsnow4608 would be interested to know some good drills. I'm currently having problems with my hip. Cant seem to get far enough forward, bending my legs just make me backseat and teacher keeps yelling at me to stop using edge.... so confused...

@dropinsnow4608 4 жыл бұрын
@@Ninjasticks as a drill, try to separate your feet wider and bring you hip forward as if you were going to the toilet...bring your pelvis forward like peeing.. Best way to explain! This will make you totally rest on your boots. Once you have this feeling, start to bend your knees, but never lose the contact/feeling of leaning completely on the boots. We have an other tutorial that might help a little. It's our first one I belive.
