Can these be used for dish clothes? What type yarn would be best for washing dishes with, dies it matter? I liked your videos-very helpful 😊

Thank you so much, When I made these squares, it was so that they could be sewn together for blankets (for charity), and they were soft. I used the type of yarn I would use for knitting cardigans and hats, and so I don’t think the weave would be nearly tight enough for dishcloths. I have never tried it myself but maybe a type of yarn that is more like string would be better. Sorry I can’t give you exact advice. Good luck with it!

Thank you so so much for this video! I'm a very visual learner but also have fine motor issues due to Cerebral Palsy so it takes rewinding, and no rushing from the teacher, so this was perfect. I haven't picked up my loom in years and could not figure out a rectangular one for the life of me (I should have watched your videos lol), so this is how I'm making some square Christmas presents on my round loom. I appreciate this and you!

I want to make scarves for Seaman’s Church ministry. It’s my quarantine project to go with hats for them. Some good MUST come out of this terrible pandemic year. Yarn is Lion Brand Thick and Quick hats on the large loom. Wide bands to keep ears warm and a scarf with a bit of color maybe in worsted 4 weight/US.

Is it necessary to use two strands?
@linj654 жыл бұрын
Hello, Yes, I have found it necessary to use 2 strands even if the yarn is very thick because otherwise the square doesn’t hold its shape. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Why do you wind in on clockwise then after the cast on counterclockwise? I always thought it was always wrap counterclockwise?
@lucywallace37925 жыл бұрын
Hello Kendall, I developed my method of wrapping for making flat panels myself, and found that it worked, so I have stuck with it! I am sure there are lots of other ways it can be done, though, and hopefully you will be able to find one that suits you. Thanks for your interest. Lucy

do you change the ammount of pegs? cause it looks like your working on more then 10 pegs.
@lucywallace37929 жыл бұрын
Hello, sorry if this was confusing. When I demonstrate the loom knitting techniques in my other video "Create a flat panel in a round loom", I am using 10 pegs, plus the winding peg on the front of the loom (to secure the yarn temporarily). However, in this video, I use 23 pegs plus the winding peg. I demonstrate how to calculate the number of pegs in my video "Make an 8 inch square on a round loom". Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I find it to be very clear and easy to follow. I have a question, when you take the first and last pegs and wrap in the opposite direction (counter clockwise/anti-clock) is this what keeps it from curling up at each side? Thank you
@lucywallace37929 жыл бұрын
There is a little bit of curl on the edges of the squares I make using the method I demonstrate in this video. However, a few days ago I watched a very good video on loom knitting a scarf, which recommends slipping the first stitch of each row to achieve flat edges, and shows how to do this. I have not tried it out myself yet, but you might like to have a look at it: "Loom Knitting Easy Scarf for Beginners" by LoomaHat.com - here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZXbd5enrpuoZ9U

Thank you very much to everyone for all the nice comments! I have been asked how many pegs would be needed to produce a 5 inch square using exactly the same method and equipment demonstrated in this video, and the answer is 15. The number of rows required depends on the quality of the yarn used (see my other video "Make an 8 inch square on a round loom"), so a bit of experimentation may be necessary to get it right. However, I have just made a quick 5 inch square sample using two strands of economy DK acrylic yarn, and that worked out at 16 or 17 rows. Hope this helps.
