Great video and very helpful. Can you give any advice for whiskers/fine hairs that radiate from the subject if there is no background and the pastelmat is “raw”. I’m no good at backgrounds and end up hating them so I only draw the subject. This means my hairs etc aren’t crisp.
@Lindamoirart15 күн бұрын
Thank you for your lovely comments. You could try a white charcoal pencil - I've been using the Generals Pastel Chalk pencil recently which is working well. You could also use a scribe tool to indent the paper and then run a sharp pastel pencil along the indentation. Hope these work for you 😊
@lil700215 күн бұрын
@ ohhhh, I didn’t even think of indenting pastelmat. Could I also put a base of white down where I want the whiskers? Is that what you mean? Also, I do love your weekly blether. ❤️
@LindaMoir15 күн бұрын
No, I would make the light indentation then run your pastel along that. Just make sure it’s a nice fine indent tool, you don’t want the lines too thick. Definitely have a practice on a wee bit of spare Pastelmat as well as trying the charcoal white pencil. I’m so glad you are enjoying the Blether 🩷

@ I’ll get the slice tool and try that. Thank you so much. I appreciate you taking time to answer. x
@LindaMoir15 күн бұрын
@ not the slice tool, a scribe tool sometimes called an indentation pen, the ones with a little ball on the end. The slice tool won’t really work for this.

Is that a q-tip you are using to blend?
@Lindamoirart28 күн бұрын
Hi Barbara, yes it is. It is one of my favourite tools for blending. I use them in all of my tutorials. Cheap, easily accessible and does a great job. 😊

I understand that Faber Castell bases their star system on the Blue Wool Scale so it's possible to determine how many stars I'm willing to require. As far as the Stabilo Carbothellos, Do you have any idea what each star actually means? How do you determine how many stars is your minimum?
@LindamoirartАй бұрын
Hi Chris. It is my understanding that they all use the Blue Wool Scale test. The Stabilos are rated on a scale out of five so, personally if fading is a concern, I would be sticking with the four to five star rated pencils as my minimum. Hope this helps.

Hi. I can buy some glassine paper on sheets but it comes folded as it is 16 inches x 20 inches. If I am going to use it to cover finished pieces, will the crease affect the way it works? TIA
@LindamoirartАй бұрын
Hi Barbara Anne I have never had an issue with the fold. However, if you have a concern just lay the glassine paper on a flat surface and weigh it down with some books or such. This should flatten it enough for you to use. Hope this helped. Cheers Linda 😊

Hi Linda. These are helpful Tipps, thank you. However, i find the title somewhat misleading. I was expecting something on how to overcome that fear and being given more (helpful) information on how to do it (starting with the choice of the paper) honestly only intensifies it for me. What helped me personally during the last months was to start drawing and painting with my 2-year old daughter. Knowing that she would always stray from her paper and doodle on mine made me incredibly relaxed because i didnt have to perform anymore. I let her decide what i draw (tractors, cats, cranes, bulldozers, mainly) so i dont have to choose the perfect motive. I gave her all my expensive art supplies to test out, evn though shed drop my crayons and press my alcohol markers too hard onto the page. Because i hd way too much respect for these things, even though there are just tools and not treasures that could be ruined by my imperfect art. I forbade myself to tell her "thats beautiful" so that she wouldn't start craving my praise, but simply draw alongside her. I produced tons of rough sketches over the last months and was extremely surprised that i havent only rediscovered my joy in creating art but also improved visibly (especially with regards to perspective) without even trying. 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s really wonderful to hear how drawing with your daughter helped you relax and rediscover the joy of art. Sometimes, we place so much pressure on ourselves to create something "perfect" that we forget the beauty of simply enjoying the process. Letting go of the need to perform and embracing the imperfections can open up so much creative freedom-your story is a perfect example of that 😊 I also really appreciate your feedback about the video title. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future videos. Your insights are so valuable, and I'm thrilled that you're finding your own path to creativity🌻

Thanks for the review, as a coloured pencil artist who loved using the Pastelmat Board but was getting surfaces that wouldn't take pencil and made a terrible smudgy mess I'm very interested to try this new surface.

Oh, I had heard about that new paper and started researching it. It is not yet available in the United States. Looking forward to seeing your comparison videos. I wondered, because I had heard that with velour you have to use fixative spray. Is that true? Does it require any special treatment or mounting or is it similar that way to pastel mat. Looking forward to seeing what you create on it. Thanks for doing this video.
@Lindamoirart2 ай бұрын
I don't use fixative and have never used it on velour. From my experience so far the Canson Velvet should be treated exactly the same as Pastelmat and I recommend to always use spacers when mounting pastels. Glad you liked the video and thanks for your support. It really does mean a lot.

I’m a beginner with pastels. I put off doing my animal pictures because I doubt myself but really when I have finished them, they usually look quite good. Just need to get started and keep going. The start of your blog looks good.
