As good, and sinister, and conniving a man can be; but also, Dirk could portray the convictions of the heart and its tenderness beyond measure... with that brow lift. Marvelous Margaret Lockwood and that great ending . . . 😮

This movie is a classic because just as 1941 when the world was in love with Betty Grable, we fall in love with her also in this movie same as Victor Mature

Great movie, I always loved Victor Mature while watching old movies with my Mother. BUT... why does every scene have "over the Rainbow" playing !!!

It must of been about 1959/60 , I was about 14/15 years old in north London, walking aimlessly down the street, so I went into a cinema and the film playing was Odds against Tomorrow. I never forgot it, but could never find it anywhere until now. It was listening to the back ground music of the MJQ that turned me on to modern jazz, I was hooked man ! to the consternation of my parents, teenage friends etc. but I was up there in that verified air of the Be Bop brigade and the greats Coltrane Parker, Chet Baker, Kirk, Mulligan etc, etc. Pardon my Be BOP ! I digress, a great movie !

Laird Cregar stole the movie. Next to him Mature was a lightweight.

Brilliant movie in every aspect, although I do suffer a little from the grim lives of some people. Surprised to see Ingram driving an Austin Healy, probably the six and worth a pile in today's money. I get satifaction from the fact that Bako is also a loser.

You can have Betty Grable, I'd take Carole Landis any day of the week! A lot of classy women in this movie, it's a shame that the kind of women is so hard to find! Loved the film! sgl

Not a bad little flick. Had some really tense scenes, good visuals, good story and characters, but the ending was a bit of a letdown. Mild Spoiler: It was almost like they ran out of ideas and decided to just do a Cagney ending. But overall it was pretty good.

Great film , great acting . Victor Mature is excellent as are Betty Grable and Carole Landis . The only jarring note is the detective , would you really have a creepy guy like him as a detective , still another great actor .

One of my Favourite Joan Bennett films after Reckless Moment and Scarlet Street. Lang's SBD is Not quite as nuanced as Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca or Suspicion or even Bluebeard's 7 Wives on which it is loosely based----but a marvelous Freudian brew nonetheless. Not sure if Bennet is appropriately cast as the "damsel in distress" here, as she's too cool and assured that you dont believe anything could really terrify her. Maybe that slightly "detached" quality is why her performance works...? Michael Redgrave (of Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes) is superb as the neurotic husband. It's Always a pleasure to watch him in this kind of role that he seemed to play often in Dead by Night (45) and The Browning Version (51).

Great comments. Note that it was Dead Of Night I lost interest in this after an hour. I like Fritz Lang but he’s not in Hitchcock’s class.
