I think it's a good idea and would be willing to purchase in the pre-sale.

At what point does it write off a watch? This must take days and man power and expensive tools and solutions . Surely this must cost hundreds (just this part) so many watches must get written off for such work. It needs passionate sympathetic watch makers to keep these fine instruments alive! Thank you for such an insight. Nickel plating would of been the cherry on the cake ❤👌😎

Only the budget of the client will write off a watch. Just in my view.

As a part-time/hobbyist watchmaker in Australia being very remote from the watchmaking centre in Eurpoe, I think the book concept you describe is a great idea and I would be in for a pre-sale. More power to you on this project!

Excuse my ignorance, but did they dent it to deform metal and reduce the oval shape of the hole??

Is there evidence that these specific plastic parts degrade and break down faster? I am put off by the idea of plastic parts within the movement but if they prove to be just as good in practical use and over a longer period of time... i'd consider the powermatic 80 movement watches.

Remarkable that you could drill this out and refill with material AND re-find the perfect center for the barrel so that it meshes perfectly with the rest of the train. Would REALLY like to see how you approached this!

Thank you for actually showing the setup for fixing it, that's the most interesting part of your videos. How would you restore nickel plating? Do you strip nickel from the entire bridge or use plating brush? Thank you again!

Nice restoration. I have to add though that it is easy to bad mouth the person who did a botched job until you consider that up until the seventies there were thousands of watch makers and millions of mechanical watches. Most of the watch repair people may not have had a nice lathe with a centering face plate also they may have only been paid five dollars to get the thing running. I have seen some very interesting fixes on watches and clocks and I look at them with a different light. Maybe the owner did not want to pay for the repair and maybe the repair man needed the money and honestly did what he could. Today everyone sees mechanical watches as highly collectible. That was not the case fifty years ago. I’m not advocating bad work but in a bad situation sometimes corners need to be cut. Anyway sorry about the rant. I enjoy your channel

Hallo Kalle, I am in to the idea to pre-order your book. Tough, being a “pensionado” watchcollector, I am new in tinkering with watches myself. Besides basic tools, will there be a part in the book how to set up a small workshop and which light is best for a watchmaker?

I was working on a ST 3600 movement and the hairspring disconnected from the balance wheel assembly. There is no screw to attach the hairspring back. It looks like it is just a friction fit. What am I missing? How do you re attach the hairspring on this type of movement? Love your videos by the way. I’ve learned so much.
