I would recommend carefully *practicing* breaking while leaned over. Yesterday I was on an on-ramp, on the gas and picking where to slot into traffic when I realize there is a car at the very end of the ramp that's decided that maybe merging isn't for them and is at a dead stop. So... ease off the gas, ease on the brake. I'm still in the curve of the ramp, so I'm still in a lean, only standing the bike up in the last ten feet or so. Anyway - ride within your limits, but practice a bit here and there so your limits move further out. 😉
