"No! Not both of us! Not all of us! Please, God!" The absolute anguish in his voice is all it took to bring me to tears. And to know there are people who might actually want another civil war... whoever they are, each of them is either a heartless monster or an ignorant half wit. No one but either of those would want their countrymen to experience this kind of heartbreak and pain.

I really enjoy watching when the confederate infantry begins to come out of the tree line and form up to begin Pickett's charge!! I really like the drums playing as they form into their various units!!! I'm sure the actual participants in the assault were just as brave and fearless as portrayed in the movie!!!

General longstreet suggested Trench warfare to General Lee, but Lee wanted to take the fight to the Union. Big mistake, maybe he felt their was no other real choice. I don't think he wanted the war to continue.

Lee was wrong to have allowed his army to engage with the federals in the first place, but once he committed himself he had precious little choice other than to fight it out. Disengaging and trying to march around the federal position was never a realistic option.

All this over an institution that should have been abolished by their grandfathers.
