Was in the bullens road, what a night. Expected the park end to be full of bayern fans , but they had a few in the main stand , that was it.

My husband, who is a Wednesdayite, was there that day on the Kop. He still maintains to this day that Everton side was the best team he has ever seen and he's in his mid-seventies. I have to agree. That was a wonderful side. Southall, Stevens, Van Den Hauwe, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Reid, Bracewell, Steven, Sheedy, Sharp and Gray. Even forty years on I can still name that side. Mind, Wednesday were a bloody good side as well under Howard Wilkinson. Very underestimated and don't get the credit they deserve. Martin Hodge was one of the best goalies in Europe, never mind England, at the time, Mel Sterland was a superb full back as was Nigel Worthington, the midfield of Gary Megson and Gary Shelton was strong and,up front, Lee Chapman frightened defences to death. No one fancied going to Hillsborough in those days.
