I’m confused about this did he know he was a half breed angel or did he take Gabriel’s place as angel I don’t get it It’s not explained in the movie Nothing is really

2 possibilities: 1. became one to replace gabriel after death. couldn't have been an angel from the start because constantine would have known about it with his gift. 2. was an angel from the start but god made sure constantine wouldn't know (constantine's 'gift' is from god anyways so it isn't a stretch that god could 'filter' some things he could see) if you look at the novel for the answer it would be 1. there is no right or wrong explanation but since it's a film I actually prefer 2. remember constantine saying god doesnt have a plan for anyone? then you see gabriel's powers are taken away during the fight with lucifer, and constantine's lung cancer is cured (albeit by the hands of the devil). so after being a skeptic and cynic all this time, constantine's faith is restored in that good deeds do get rewarded in the end. (even if he killed himself twice lol) also realizes god personally helped him all along in discretion through chas the angel when he thought he was in it alone. even gabriel who was jealous of humans and hated them for their special privileges became one himself in the end. see how everything turned out for the better? god really does work in mysterious ways :P
