What if they are wired in series? Wouldn't they get the same current irrespective of voltage?

Great video! I attempted to change the amplifier board in my 817 about 5 years ago and somehow the smoke got out. I wish I had your video then.

Around the time you published the video i was playing with RTL SDR and listening to volmets discovering the joins of radio. I heard Shannon in irland and MKL in great britain all the way in Sahara of Algeria.

Good to see an older Kenwood being resurrected 😀 the transceivers of this age have hinged front panels. You remove two of the three screws on the side and loosen the one nearest the front bottom on both sides and the panel hinges on the loosened screw.

There does exist smaller 7 segment displays. Another approach could be to find some old calculators and see how it will fit.

if you look at MAX313CPE MAX313 Quad SPST Analog Switch from the on line company Futurlec (Oz company) you will find you can get RF rated analogue sp DT switches which means you can switch Bank 0 or 1 through to the same circuit point with near zero extra resistance in line. That gives you effectively 16 Rx frequencies with a very simple change or addition. Word to the wise - Don't use the 4066 a switch with a barge pole ... it has about 40 ohm of internal resistance. that's why it is so cheap - and nasty. Mr Futurlec also lists one Intersil part for about USD 3.9 but with no datasheet - that's half price of the above part so might be worth a Butcher's HOOK. I don't know if you can get the parts cheaper in the UK from a bricks and mortar place. ??

At typical application is to refit existing hand held Tcvrs with a set of 8 Tx and 8 Rx virtual crystals.. there are a few traps to it. Basically the existing oscillators have to be converted to low gain amps within the target device. Obviously you can't stuff 500 microwatts of signal where it was expecting 200 uW . Bear in mind that typically the prog rock will produce 8mW out. So you will need attenuation. The output CANNOT be run into any sort of RF transformer without a 100nF capacitor in line. Finally some mixers will require the input to be a pretty pure sine wave or you will have all sorts of nasty artifacts at the output of the mixer and no circuits to remove them. Diod ring mixers generally will work with a square wave input. Gilbert cell mixers don't like a non sinusoidal force . If the Tx is an FM type that directly modulates the XTal via a varactor diode then clearly the Progrock can't work in that application.

@@Q26Video also on the idea of using a 16 Mhz x 2 xtal rubbered analogue osc and a mixer with input from PRogrock and post mix filtering before sig goes to the existing Radio mixer . If you have a tiny as in 10pf or less quality variable c cross the crystal of the HF osc then with a Mosfet you can pull that in and out in static C mode . So you can drop the frequency by a known quantum every time you go into Tx . It's only the fact that you have infinite flex in your hyperspace E-crystal that lets you do this . I refer to a direct conversion Rx of course.

Useful video, thank you! I have no experience with this sort of thing but would like to add 2 PIR’s to one LED string of lights, one at the top of the stairs, one at the bottom. Do I just put two sets of wires in the same holes on the bread board?

Hi Martin - it's a bit more complicated than that - and too big a question for me to answer in a KZbin comment, sorry. There are more solutions for switching larger circuits and hopefully sometime I can make more videos about them - in the meantime, you may well figure out how to achieve your goal as your electronics knowledge develops...all best wishes, Mortimer

Homebrew is ham radio. I remember looking forward to QST every month to see what Doug Demaw and others wrote about building qrp rigs. There is so much available now but I still love building circuits. Look at N6QW’s pages. He does home-brew sdr to old tube radios and hybrid tube/dds stuff. Schematics of what you built?

I have a 817 that someone has been into before. It doesn't have the plastic film over the board. I don't see the grounding strip you mention, I just the the two jumpers and the two coax cables. Is it a wire or a foil strip to the board under the small transformer?
@Q26Video
@Q26Video 4 ай бұрын
As I remember it's just a small metal strip. If you follow the same removal procedure, you should get to the point where that is the last connection to remove, so it should then be apparent as you ease the finals board up. I hope it goes well for you...
