I get goosebumps when I hear the piano rendition of this song, and I first saw this almost 22 years ago. I get like the opposite of PTSD, but still brings a tear to my eye. (It would be between this and "The Streets of Whiterun" or "Secunda" that I would want to be played in the background of either my wedding, birth of my first child, or my funeral). IT SOUNDS GREAT IN MINOR KEY TOO, thank you for uploading this!!

Excellent series. Jumped the shark a bit in this last one though. Wonder what the artistic differences were between Elton and Mayall -- the satire on the establishment seemed dated even at the time and now looks prehistoric as right-on lefties of the 80's would be buried for their crimes of privilege by the intersectionalist establishment of today.- still the same fundamentally but different ideologies to bully the plebs. By the time this programme went out Murdoch had already bought Chinese media and was sucking up to his communist masters..

Loads of comments about this song and show and how great they are, so I'm delighted, after 14 years of this vid being up, to be the first person to say how much I loathe this tune. God, just the dourest, dreariest theme, so fitting for a show whose essential message was "you kids don't know how good you have it, look how rubbish life was in the past". I have a reoccurring memory of absolutely crying out loud to this theme, and I don't know if it's just a false sense-memory based on how crushingly bored I was whenever I was forced to sit through it, or an actual event; neither would surprise me. All that said, I do wonder just how I'd feel about the show if I watched it now, as an adult. Was it really as crushingly depressing as I recall? Who knows? ...Except I could know, couldn't I. Someone's probably put all the eps up on this site haven't they, the gits. And I can't *not* know, can I? I can't be out here spouting my utter disdain for a show that I don't actually remember anything about except how much the theme song used to fill me with dread? Maybe it's great. Urgh. Brb... ...Yep, no, bored, bored, bored. Glad those of you who liked it did, though!
