Love this composition. I can’t seem to find a recording of the composer Donald Brown playing it. Did he ever record it himself?

William the Conqueror was one of a handful of great jazz albums of the early ’80s. Not many people know that.

Extremely Hard To Find 1990 Vinyl Rarity Recorded By Rudy Van Gelder. Renee Is Accompanied By Branford Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter And Others On Her First Album. Recommended

An absolutely exquisite musical tableau of the title to the extent that it transforms the 'snapshot' of it into an indelible movie short, allowing us to see our feathered creatures living the range of cohabiting in natural blithesomeness, to the healthy competition of getting to eat what is available in a day in the life, to maintain individual strength, ultimately for the flock. I love Renee and her feathered character, solo expression, along with the terrestrial undergirding of the rhythm section, but Brother Brandford really provides the sonant beauty and virtuosity that allows psychically the apprehension of the bird(s); this is why Renee wanted him to play on this tune with his Soprano Saxophone I'm sure-he's so good and has a great tone! I have this recording on cassette, back when it came out. I think I heard this tune on either a New York City Progressive radio station (The Great WBAI) or on Jazz Radio in the New York City Metro reception area, and I've come to know of the great Renee and have been recognizing her on my mental mantle of Jazz Stars every since. Renee is fabulous

Eddie Henderson- trumpet; Gary Bartz -saxophone; Buster Williams -bass; Donald Brown- piano; Carl Allen -drums; a 6-track album.. all good stuff... Doesn't Donald Brown look very much like Lionel Richie, or am I much mistaken?
