Who actually performed the cornet solo in the film? I have never gotten a definitive identity of that cornetist.

Can you pronounce names correctly in a language you cannot speak? By sight?
@Contrerassev Жыл бұрын
una cosa es no pronunciar correctamente,cosa que es comprensible,pero otra cosa es cambiar el nombre a la obra y ponerle un nombre ridículo como Orange juice,que tiene que ver el concierto de Aranjuez con el zumo de naranja???
@PeterLGଈ Жыл бұрын
@contrerassev "Orange Juice" was what the local miners called the piece. Aranj = orange and Juez = juice; it's a pronounciation based on a lack of knowledge of the originating language. I only recently learned the correct pronounciation myself, and I know a few languages. The deliberate use of the phrase "Orange juice" is a harmless joke at the expenxe of the locals.

@@Contrerassevthe government of the day, a conservative one, worked to destroy the power of the workers' Unions and shut down manufacturing and mining operations all over England. They ruined the lives of millions of working-class familes. The movie, "Brassed Off" is about the brass band made up of workers from one such coal mine. Each mine, called a "pit", usually had its own brass band, and they regularly competed in competitions against each other and other town or organisation bands. They are not making fun of the name of the piece of music; its use is a homage to the sadness and beauty of the original.

As a former Salvationist (Salvation Army) Brass music hold a special significance to me. The emotion from a Brass band cannot be replicated by any other genre. When you have such a brilliant film which really captured the reality of life for the Miners and communities at that time, paired with the excellence of Grimethorpe Colliery Band, well the results are in the continued respect and love for this film shown by so many aftre all these years.

This is so much better & emotional than the guitar & orchestra rendition . I lived in a mining community & can relate to seeing my neighbours having their livelihoods taken away as two pits were closed . Such a bitter sweet film , made all the more human & personal by the music and its impact within the film
