Oh no not the bat phone… these gadgets just select random radio signals and broadcast them… nothing scientific about them but some little China man somewhere is laughing all the way to the bank… sorry, I do believe in ghosts but not these bloody so called EVP gadjetts I’m also an electronics engineer and can see that these devices are a con.

IKB Is my hero what an engineering genius. It's a testament to those brave hard working workmen that the tunnel still in use today. Sad about the men who died constructing this beautiful tunnel. 😢

Anyone who has been in the Bath Stone quarry tunnels inside the hill can possibly guess why the locals thought it might collapse.

This misses the actual track into nowhere at the eastern portal of Box tunnel On the north side of the line can be seen a disused track disappearing under a door. Could this have been an underground connection into the works at Copenacre or Corsham?

Learn to pronounce Gillingham correctly.

There is a difference in pronunciation between Gillingham in Dorset and Gillingham in Kent. I should know I spent almost 6 years pronouncing Gillingham in Dorset when I worked on the railway dispatching trains towards Yeovil and Exeter! Have a nice day 👋

These are real ghost stories that have been reported across Britain's railway network. Nothing to do with model railways

I don't know why the owners of Yeovil Junction don't allow an indepedent cafe owner to reopen it. This has been done up and down the country!

That would be something for South Western Railway to consider as it's their station to manage.

@@tracksintotheunknown That is what I assumed. A lot of Railway companies realise it is way to make extra cash and ensure a building is fully used and not left to go derelict!

One of the greatest anomalies of the railways is, the none electrification of the Wokingham/Guildford line. It’s as if the Great Western didn’t want to relinquish this link to the South East of London to Southern. As to the ghosts, the line passes Ambarrow an ancient burial mound so who knows. As a small boy with a train book I still remember steam passing through.

Thank you for the gems of local knowledge that I can't understand not knowing them until this yur vidjoe o yors. Thanks. Yeovil, Dorset and as it goes, Bournemouth, Hants. Like a game of pass the parcel, every border settlement seemingly shifted along to the adjacent chair/county. Molly the polite ghost. Only the best in Dorset, you see. Oh ah , err, Somzet..!

One of the most interesting features of the tunnel is its inclination and orientation as it is claimed that on Brunel’s birthday the rising sun is visible from the West portal.

Yes. I would much prefer the author had either confirmed or scotched this notion rather than wittering on about supposed ghosts. |t is fascinating in that people at the time and since have questioned the necessity for this work (a moderate re-alignment could have obviated it) but Brunnel insisted. I used to live only 15 miles away and determined to rise early and see for myself but a preliminary recce revealed that you could only confirm it by trespassing virtually onto the track.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but "wittering on about the supposed ghosts" is the whole point of the series. Have a nice day!

While Box Tunnel and Wiltshire as a whole is most famous where the Rev. W. Awdry (as a child) used to get inspiration for his stories in the Railway Series when he used to live there as a young boy, I have no idea this tunnel is also home to a few spooky legends.
