Tacoma isn't "the only place on earth to inspire the plot of dune". It's well known that Frank Herbert was inspired by the sand dunes outside Florence Oregon and how at the time they were using plants to try and stabilize the dunes and prevent them from further encroaching into the town.

I spoke with a park ranger who said there were bigger trees than the big one by the loop road. That looks over 8 ft in diameter. I wonder how tall it is? There were other really big trees we passed on the way.

I think this is the park's Outer Loop trail, which has square-shaped trail markers.
@gregburkhart9764
@gregburkhart9764 2 жыл бұрын
Spoiler alert: The initial trail shown is the Inner Loop trail on the Narrows side, walking northwest toward the point of the peninsula. At :50 you see a trail marker; this is where you leave the Inner Loop trail to get to the tree. If you were walking in the opposite direction on the Inner Loop trail, this would be the second trail marker from the dirt fire road that cuts across the peninsula. After that, you're on your own. :-)

Thanks for this upload. I'm comin up to the SeaTac area for a visit soon. Saw this pier on Google Earth and I was wondering if it was a good fishing spot. Looks like it could be. If anyone knows what kind of fish there are up here or if Crabbing (Dungeness) is any good, let me know. (:

I love Tacoma parks! Point Defiance Park trails got me through COVID and I continue to go there all the time. So thrilled to start teaching yoga for MPT here in Hilltop!

This is the stupidest thing I've seen from tacoma lately, and thats saying alot. How about you use the money to pay for services to keep the beach clean, that would be a better use of tax payers money because the tax payers don't want this "improvement"

Why on EARTH are you pouring cement all over the best natural space in Tacoma??? Everyone who went to school in pierce county remembers a school trip here and it being one of the most magical and looked forward days of the year. This is absolutely disgusting what you’re planning on doing.

This is just getting ridiculous now. I remember this beach well. I made love to my 2nd husband on the rocks of this lovely beach. It wasn’t the most pleasant love making experience, but it was memorable. Now you just want to murder the land, and take away natural habitats for what? More Instagramable scenes? This is God Awful! It’s disappointing when you take into account how much wild life, fish and other animals and mammals will be effected by this. It’s disturbing that a parks department would even consider this. At most, the parking lot needs to be paved. But other than that, keep it just the way it is!

Ruining Tacoma one day at a time. People love that place and natural beauty your taking it always and destroying it. Maybe you all should. Actually ask people and the public.

This isn’t it at all guys... it’s not “progress” it’s ruining a natural beautiful area. Quite frankly I cannot believe the city is allowing you to pour concrete and move in heavy machinery so close to the ocean. You’re going to impact the intertidal zone. Plus all this after you close 5 mile to car traffic except from 9-2 daily? Really? My best memories in point defiance are watching the sunset from the narrows lookout. All I can say is Metro parks the people do not want this. Please stop taking away the beauty of our city.

this is quite literally the dumbest idea. leave it ALONE. nobody. wants. this. not a single person! I love the beach the way it is, and the fact that you want to make it not even close to a beach anymore is ridiculous. maybe focus your energies on better things like fixing the roads throughout Tacoma 🙃🙃
