I also have one of these really useful dryers, dating from 1979/80, but now I need to get into it to investigate a sudden failure to rotate. Anyone know how to release the casing? I've taken off some self-tappers but it's not moving.

You can't beet a GEC Hotpoint best motor ever put in a washing machine. do you still have that hoover D6538 dryer? we had one like that when I was a kid in the mid 90's but it was timed dry with a booster switch. that one reminds me of it
