One thing watching videos is knowing where you're at . You do a good job posting location so we can sorta visualize a map of your route. Goathead thorns is a concern. Youre probably using sealant. My go-to food is bread and pbj too.

Thanks for the great videos, David! I have watched every minute so far up to this episode. I am planning on riding the Southern Tier from San Diego next month (Feb. 2025), so this is very valuable information! Is that a GoPro you're using? If so, what model and what settings do you use (i.e., wide angle or super wide or regular).

Awesome, I am excited for you! I used the DJI Osmo Action camera. I recorded 1080p and 60fps. I used wide angle and the RockSteady shake-free and the Dewarp settings.

Thank you for your concern. I was hoping to post a video once a week, but with the holidays and a few other obligations I haven't been able to keep that pace. I am working on a few, but I probably won't post another video until January.

David, your journey through the Southern Tier is a joy to watch 🌟🚴♂️. The peaceful park scenes and your camping routine really capture the freedom of the open road 🏕️🌄. Keep pedaling strong, brother! 🙌 Your determination and love for adventure are a reminder of life's simple pleasures. Much respect! ✊🏾🌍💛

David, your determination through the Texas Hill Country is inspiring! 🚴♂️ Tackling 90 miles of steep hills and dodging livestock isn’t easy, but you handled it like a pro. That tailwind was a well-earned boost, and the brewery stop added a nice touch to an intense day. Hope your warm showers host provided a cozy spot for the night, and best of luck sorting your plans in Austin. Safe travels on the rest of your journey! 🌟🍺

Are you using a green screen for your videos? There are no cars.
@davidcovington60732 ай бұрын
No green screen. :) Some days I was traveling through pretty remote areas and there wasn't much car traffic. But also I try to find moments when cars aren't around to film, because of the noise and also I don't want to be paying attention to the camera when I need to be watching cars and trying not to get run over.
@anneliesevoelker25022 ай бұрын
@@davidcovington6073 even if you watch the cars they will still run cyclist over. Somebody doesn't like bikes. I was hit. Once by an ebiker and once by a truck.

The "Purple Tree" is a Texas Mountain Laurel. The Texas Mountain laurel produces large clusters of flowers that have a strong sweet aroma to them. These trees require minimal maintenance and pruning and they never lose their leaves. The rolling hills in the area you rode through are challenging. I believe your rode through the area during the best time of the year. The spring flowers combined with the cooler temps are very enjoyable.

On my own bike tours in the Hill Country, usually in Spring, I'd see Mountain Laurel, Redbud, and Acacia. All very beautiful. I think what he saw when he mentioned the purple tree was actually Redbud. Laurel has a different shape and darker color of purple. We had it in our yard in Austin. Mountain Laurel blooms before the Redbud. Acacia blooms all summer. I'm guessing this segment of the ride was in April.

Hi David, I used to live in Austin and take self supported bike tours in the Texas Hill Country. There are some long steep climbs but the scenery is great. The state parks all have showers. I camped at Lost Maples SP and the Schreiner park ( used to be a state park ) in Kerrville is nice too. I have a great off-highway paved route to Fredricksburg and the connectors to Perdnales State Park and Austin if you like. There is a campground near the airport in Fredricksburg where I met other ST cyclists while I stayed there. Great place with showers. People are used to seeing folks riding the ST route. I can send you a link to my 400 mile loop but most of it is off your itinerary. We live outside Durango CO now. If you come this way in the future we will host your stay. Cheers!

I rode up the Pacific coast the summer of 2020. A lot of the fast food soda fountains were closed(I usually filled my water bottles up). In 2021, I rode across the U.S. COVID was big on the Navajo reservation. Everything was closed on the reservations. I'm kind of a loner & I rough camped the whole time so it didn't bother me too much....& no, I never did get that COVID shot. I never trusted the government after they made us take those non-FDA approved anti-nerve agent pills during Desert Storm.
