I saw this movie back in the Eighties and was not the least bit impressed. I discovered later that Paramount made extensive cuts to the movie making it nearly impossible to watch. 'Suits' know little or nothing about movies. They know even less nowadays. Pathetic.

The Keep is so criminally underrated!!! Although I wish to God that a Director's Cut will pop up one day, I thank God for what I have. Happy New Year!!!

Saw this on the big screen with the sound track blasting on the cinemas stereo's, awesome. Sadly looks crap on video and was butchered by the studio.
@TheRealLucidNightmare7 күн бұрын
That would have been awesome to experience!
@davidmouser5967 күн бұрын
@@TheRealLucidNightmare When I say the studio butchered it I am not joking, they cut the film down from 210 mins to just 96 mins. Is it any wonder many characters & sub plots just disappear part way.
@TheRealLucidNightmare7 күн бұрын
that is an editing massacre. No wonder it feels so dreamlike. I knew that it was cut up a bit by the studio, but I didn’t realize how much. It would be a dream to check out the directors cut.

@@TheRealLucidNightmareSadly the effects man died near the end of production so the final confrontation is minus most of its effects. No wonder Mann wont even discuss this film.

One of the earliest rentals we got on VHS back in '83 or so. Strange movie but I really liked the concept of the story.

I remember renting The Keep on VHS back in the 80s. Basically rented it "blind" and ended up really enjoying it. Incredible atmosphere! Great to see The Keep finally get a proper physical media release by Vinegar Syndrome!

I ended up renting it with some friends at college from a small video store that had a bunch of gems. Loved the atmosphere of it. So glad Vinegar Syndrome finally released it 😁

In my personal opinion, it is time for a sequel. A modern sequel, not a remake, A sequel that ties back to the events of this movie. Yeah, that's wishful thinking, but not in today's Hollywood.

That would be amazing! I’d be all in.

One of the greatest science-fiction of all time. Sad but, thank God, it has a happy ending to save us from eternal depression. There is one thing I'd like to ask the developers who created the simulated world though ... Why didn't you make the ''limit of the world'' an infinite loop? That would have the simulated world expanding without limit. And no one would know they were living in a simulated world. The sceneries would be repeated but it would be so vast that no one would know. Our universe is limitless. That could be a hint that we are living in a simulated world too. 😊

Just watched it again this morning. One of my favourite action/adventure films from my childhood. Watched in theaters 4 or 5 times back in the day. This lil film is a LOT of fun, and this is the best entry from Kevin Connor's films of that era. "The Land Before Time", "At the Earth's Core", "Warlords of Atlantis" and the usually forgotten sequel to "The Land..." called "The People that Time Forgot" All of them are very entertaining movies way much better than the CGI shit we get nowadays. Give me rubber monsters anytime before overused CGI, much realistic always practical effects.
