13 years later this is still the go to vid. Good Job. Just ordered a set of quiet baffles for my new to me sideshots.

Sounds like you need to speed that idle up. It sounds like it's about to die at idle. But idk, if it works for ya

so you should remove your baffles and remove the wire wrapping and rewrap them with thread. The thread will hold the insulation tight during the install and burn off after. you want the insulation to be as fluffy as possible inside the pipe because that's how insulation works. it creates air space within it self to let the sound drift around inside and dissipate. Tight insulation has no space to absorbe sound so it just keeps going.

I like my sporty straight piped all the way through. I like that gurgly nasty deceleration sound. It just lasts for seconds and seconds and in the mean time I’m heard from 2 miles away 😈

I gotta say I love the no baffle sound but the quiet baffle has a deep throaty note to it. It’s not very quiet it just has a note that’s music to my ears

By using wire to reduce the thickness of the fiberglass insulation on the baffles he is effectively reducing their performance and their intended purpose!!

Great info - thanks for sharing this. I posted a video comparing the V&H Standard vs. Competition baffles on my Milwaukee 8 Stage III Softail. I've swapped back and forth but I'm currently running the competition baffles. Not much difference in sound, maybe just a little deeper and a little louder. I feel a bit more power with the competition baffles as well.

I don't see why people get scared after a bike gets 20 to 25,000 on it. These kinda Harleys are good for between 80 to 100,000 miles. I just bought me one that has 26,000 on it and it runs and ride like it's brand new only gave 3k for it. Still, many more summers on it to go just keep the primary oil changed with the motor oil and tune ups and take care of it and them bikes will last for ever.

I have a 99 1200xlc, previous owner removed the baffles and it was obscenely loud, just like in the video. Got some similar type fiberglass covered baffles, and similar type results, very pleased! Great and accurate video! I should have noted how you used the wire, because the tape provided did not work so well!
